That's what I told my wife when she commented on the smell in my shop yesterday. I didn't have a right wing chopper for 4 inch parabolic so I dug out the old feather burner to make up these. There "True Shafts" premium doug fir shafts. I wanted a set to use with my BBO longbow for this years hunting. Nice "snow storm" therapy.

Nice arrows! Those colors look like you could be a packers fan. Paying a little tribute?

I know well the smell of feather burning when crafting arrows. I've burned many with a YOUNG brand feather burner and before that (as a kid back in the fifties) I used a feather burner crafted from a kit from Fleetwood Archery in Colorado, Denver I think. ...you burn 'em, then scrape the darkened edge, then trim down the front tip & apply a spot of glue. I burned so many (made arrows for the other kids on the block) mom made me move the operation out into the garage so's I didn't stink up the house. I grew to love that smell, so many grand memories associated with it. In this day and age of polymer vanes and die-cuts it's something from a bygone day. And probably something many of today's bowhunters will never know. Another example of how technology has made bowhunting and archery something of a lessor place. (Just the thoughts of an old dude, but I wanted to share them for what they are worth.)

Where did you get your BBO? Build it yourself?

The BBO was made for me by Dan Casey, but can't remember which state he lives in.

Casekiska, I also grew up burning feathers in the basement. But we were a ranch family and it just reminded everyone of branding time. Everyone but my mother. Your descriptions brings back lots of memories. And nice looking winter project arrows JustPassin.

I need to get a feather burner. A family friend has been raising turkeys and I am having them save wings for me. Too bad they are so expensive.

The arrows look great...blood should show up very well on those feathers. :) I hunt with my BBO most of the time...great choice of bows.
