Hi Gents,

What's your best glue for inserts into carbons? Do you find a better bond from one heated glue to another?

I would like to use heat glue in case I want to play with weight as well.

Thnx, Jason

I use this on both wood and carbon arrow Devcon Epoxy, 2 Ton Epoxy it holds like iron but releases with heat just like hot melt best I have ever used.

Have been using the cheap glue sticks for my inserts from wally world for along time and haven't had any trouble. This is with carbon arrows .

Big Jim’s hot melt lately. So far so good. I was using 2 part slow cure golf shaft epoxy. No, I don’t swithch out inserts or save from broke arrows. If Big Jim fails me I will go back to epoxy, had one fail since I started using carbons back in 2005.

Big Jim's here also.

Big Jims--- holds well and allows me to make changes. Eastons epoxy is pretty serious stuff--- tried the nail trick, heat etc and have yet to recover one without burning the carbon off of it.

I found for any carbons, hard to Beat Goat Tuff. I prep and glue then up, then bareshaft tune from nock end. Then record findings, then in a pinch can walk into a shop and they can cut to length for me.

I like hot melt but in order to not damage the carbon, this is my procedure: 1. Clean inner and outer shaft, scuff interior with .223 bore brush. 2. Keep inserts at room temp. Put a field point in MOST of the way. Heat hot melt and when it is runny but not on fire itself rotate the insert in the hot melt but only the end furthest from the field point. The idea is to apply a bead around the insert. 3. IMMEDIATELY install the insert while rotating the field point so that the glue fills the voids evenly. Ensure you work quickly but smoothly. Insert until the stop contacts the arrowshaft. 4. Insert tip end into a large glass of water(ONE ice cube in glass). 5. Immediately pluck off the sprue of glue while it is mostly solid but still minorly pliable. 6. You will find that 90% plus of all shafts done this way will automatically center the insert dead center of the shaft. Most all of my broad heads spin true just from this. RARELY I might have to adjust one. For that I simply run a glass of hot tap water. Remove broad head and insert tip. Remove arrow from hot water after 20 seconds. IMMEDIATELY install broad head and spin. Move quickly to align tip. Be careful but don't dawdle.
