Received my English Longbow made in the 'war bow' style of bows, although where it's only pulling 48#s at my 27" draw, maybe 'war bow' is over-stating it somewhat, LOL. But that term certainly has more panache to it than calling this an ELB of the 'peeing contest' style!

Specs - 72" horn nocks, no leather handle, shelf or arrow rest. I intend to inlay some Mother of Pearl after I shoot it a bit.

The bowyer is Mike LaBrake out of Washington State and this is my 2nd yew self-bow from him. A bow like this was < $600 ... which if you know the prices other charge, is more than fair, especially for the workmanship. The tiller (full compass @ draw) and finish is excellent!

First 3 arrows, albeit at only 5-yards, just warming up the bow ... but hey, they grouped!

I love that style of bow.

Thanks for the comments!

I do have a bow glove, but I rarely use it. I tie my fletchings on in the English manner, and add about 3/16" of thread wraps right at the juncture of the feather 'tips', so luckily I've not received a puncture wound yet.

After a day of shooting yesterday, I had a slight 'red mark' on the top knuckle, but that's it. Plus I'm still playing with tuning the arrows ... and the nut behind the string ... to the bow!

It's pretty satisfying shooting this way. Granted ... not for everyone and I sure enjoy my laminated bows too, but I also enjoy the ELB history, so that adds to the overall experience here.

Yew English longbows are classy. Congrats.

That’s a nice one. The weight is comfortable and you’re shooting good. Not much more to ask for in my book. Lance

Very nice looking bow. I've always thought my first self bow I'd like to be yew. A couple bows I have that shoot off the knuckle seem to want a somewhat high nock point which also makes feather burn pretty much nonexistent.

For those who love or admire the ELBs, you need to get one of these T-Shirts from Paul who posts here, aka 'longbow1415'!

Great looking bows!!!! Have never shot a ELB..... but it’s on my list. Who are some bowyers that make good quality yew ELB’s?

Every archer should have a good Yew English Longbow. They're buttery silky smooth.

Nice. Don't see many traditional (simple stick and string) setups nowadays.

I've made one with horn nocks. What a chore. Thankfully JD Jones gave me some pointers along the way or I would still be working on it.
