Don't need a long thread j u st wanted to repeat what a gentleman told me this morning. He said the way he handles a noisy black widow is to turn his hearing aids down.

In late March, I'm hoping to put out the best brush buttons ever made. If your brace height is set right, these buttons will eliminate the need for string silencers. First tests were promising.

I've been toying with the idea of taking a stack of bows, tune them to different notes, and play a song.
If I use an arrow as a bow, what does that make the bow? Maybe just pluck the strip, I'm already good that that.

I shoot 3 under and believe all my bows are just as quiet as any Ive been around.I have went to installing yarn puffs at the length/6 and length/10 method and am a firm believer in this formula. It has worked on three different widows I've applied it to...This is after I get brace height set and arrows tuned...

Not to be a contrarian but I've been around a number of black widow bows that were not quiet. And there's something to the fact that there are posts regularly here about how to quiet them with numerous b.w. owners offering advice on how to.

I'am told the phenolic is noisy compared to all wood. I shot a demo KB that was really noisy so I put four string leeches at 10" and 14" and it cut the noise in half.

I have two longbow widows. Yes they seemed a little louder than several of my other bows, but then I have a longer draw and poorer release than most. But tuning them, a little heavier arrow, and splitting a pair of cat whiskers in half with two above and two below took care of any noise or perceived noise I thought I had. And that is with keeping the factory D97 strings.

Widows are historically have have not been considered quiet, but they can be quieted down. The strings from them have always been terrible, the last few years somehwat better but still not good. Brace has to set perfect and I found in the 20 or so Widows I have owned that string slap was mostly the issue. I wrap the string or put a bot of velcro on the limb where the string makes contact. I have to agree with the folks who say they are noisy but also have to say they can be made as quiet as most any other recurve out there. Shawn

I put a B50 string on mine and its as quiet as any bow made. If thats the case then it leads to the string material. The stock D97 string material is not quietest matwrial. 450+ was a quieter material over D97. I also use cat whuskers which i think are better than the spider silencers they have.

The new to me widow I just got seemed loud.
I put on a10 ring string with yarn wraps and yarn silencers and it made all the difference in the world-
Added a little felt to where the string touches the tips and it is really quiet- better than my blacktail for sure.

I have only had one black widow 62” PMA and it was a sweet bow. I had heard all the rumors of them being noisy but I found with the sane tuning process I do with all my bows it was no louder to me than any other bow I have shot.
If I get the money someday I’ll order a brand new black widow.
