Mathew from W.V. ask to see more plains horse bows . Here are pictures of one American Hornbeam horse bow, one Osage, and two White Oak bows. I show all four, but will break each one down with different posts. First one is a White Oak that holds 2.5 inches of reflex. It is 38 lbs at 25 inch draw, and 50 inches long. All natural with a hemp wrapping on the handle. Smooth drawing ,and fast because of it's reflex. One of the best horse bows I have made to date. Well seasoned white Oak makes a good short bow. String is 8 strands of B55, with a cut in arrow rest which our natives did not use.

Bassman, I find the top one interesting with so much difference in the side profile of its limbs. I'm curious how that thing looks at brace and full draw and how you kept the limbs bending in unison.

Guys my private reply is not working. Never had this problem before. Thank you all for your kind words. Then their were three. Well Jeff you make a mistake in bow building it will come back to haunt you. Got carried away, and cut to deep an arrow shelf in the bow you are referring to. It is American Horn beam. Got lazy, and tried to string it sitting at the computer, and it cracked at the arrow shelf cut out through the handle.. All the pressure on the top limb. Bad move. I know better. Jeff I got that side profile with some heat treat on different forms, and then 8 lb milk jugs tied on the tips with heat treat to induce more reflex. Side profile looked good, and it tillered nice on the tree.

Looks nice. Have you been able to get pretty accurate with those little bows?

Yes ,out to a little beyond 15 yds by pulling the bow to draw ,and looking straight down the arrow, fletching ,and all. Gives you a good line of sight even with a floating anchor.

I bet they'd be good for shootin out of a blind.

Some thing 52 to 54 inch long that comes to your full draw would work great. I don't draw long, so I can get away with a self bow at that length. I do have a couple sinew backed 52 inch bows that draw 26 plus inches. I never hunted from blinds. Always from a tree stand. Mt favorite bow was a 58 inch sinew backed Osage. 45 lb at 25.5 inches with a 450 gr arrow. I still have the bow ,but I quit hunting. I killed enough in my life time. Now when I hunt it is with a camera, saw, and an ax. I still shoot backyard, stumps, indoor, and 3D at times... and still having as much fun as ever shooting bows.

We make the best of what the good lord gave us I guess. Never really bothered me. My son with a 29 inch draw shooting my recurves zips the arrow compared to me.

Haha, true. I'm just happy to be able to shoot. God forbid if i ever lose an arm, i'm still gonna try and find a way to make it happen. It's an addiction but there are far worse things to be hooked to.
