I’ve seen one up close. It looked like the limbs were made in two pieces, with the joint up the middle of the wide face of the limb. It looked to be opening under tension. Do yours (Don & Dennis) look like that? Thanks!

I had one and a smaller version for kids. Mine kicked like a mule.: )

Back when you shot heavy slow premium Cedar arrows with shield cut barred turkey feathers that you could actually watch fly to the mark. When there was a few to select from but dependable broad single blade broad heads to hunt with.

Ambleman

My top limb was split in half, bottom limb seperating for sure. I had to epoxy it together as well as the riser. Shot it briefly with no problems. Now a wall hanger along with a BP Sherwood

I'd be willing to bet they didn't spend $2-3 to build each bow back in the day. The hickory board was probably .50 cents and labor ate up the other few bucks. They could crank them out one after the other all day every day.

One of the only two bows I own that aren't Bear bows. An all wood Ben Pearson bow.

D.Lewis I just got in a dozen of those broadheads like you pictured.

Yup! After having a good breakfast. Cooked on a wood stove. And finishing your coffee.

You grabbed your all wood long bow or recurve. Made by Pearson,Bear or York Archery. And your back quiver and Cedar arrows tipped with your favorite broad head. And the rest of all your gear for the days hunt. Like a pocket watch, compass and the knife your dad or grandpa gave you. With a lot of mojo on it. Then you had to decide. Hunt from a tree limb or on the ground. It was going to be a great day.;)

Thanks Deno! I might have seen someone on this forum rebuild a Deerslayer- type Pearson & they took it apart & rebuilt it with titebond, I think. If that bow had any hand shock, the squarish handle would’ve driven it straight up your teeth!

In the late 50’s my buddy and I sold fishing worms through a neighbors bait shop to raise money to buy two BP DeerSlayer bows. We hunted rabbits and roved the farm pastures shooting at cow patties! Lol Lost it over the years, but found one on eBay. It’s now displayed on the mantle.

I just recently traded my Deer Slayer to one of my good friends on the leather wall. One I have had many good trades with. I know he will enjoy that old bow. I just picked this heavy hitter up recently. Strung her up and pulled her back a few times. But haven’t shot an arrow with her yet. She’s a 60 pounder.;)

Not a Deerslayer but an old Ben Pearson longbow similar to the one I got for Christmas in 1955. It was given to me and I donated it last year to the Traditional Bowhunters of MD.

I don’t remember because I was not active in archery at the time. I have had the pleasure to glue one back together once. It was in the attic to long. Can’t remember how many pieces but at least 8-10. Amazing bow making though. Arvin
