Ir same but diff color

The first one. The 2nd one isn't a Ghillie.

From: Stan
Date: 22-Jan-21

What were the prices? Have you seen the ones at three rivers?

From: Bentstick54
Date: 22-Jan-21

Just curious Frank, other than actual brand name, why would you not consider the 2nd one a gillie?

From: Supernaut
Date: 22-Jan-21

They both look good but the second one is a leafy suit and not a ghille.

Whatever you decide on I would recommend 2 things; 1. Shooting with it on (you may need to trim bow arm or chest area for string clearance). 2. Carry it in with you and then put it on once you get to where you want to be. Brush and burrs can be hard on them. Many come with a convenient stuff sack.

Best of luck to you.

From: Crow#2

These are $89 Theres the one at 3 rivers but $249 ouch

First one for a ghillie, but if you’re going to go leafy suit, get a ASAT.

From: Crow#2

This is my first year to actually have all the time I want to hunt. Just retired last oct.I love it.

From: Supernaut
Date: 22-Jan-21

Congrats on the retirement and best of luck this season!

From: fdp
Date: 22-Jan-21

Because the 2nd one is made of the cut pieces of material all of which essentially have the same shape and texture.

Ghillie isn't a brand. It was actually a European occupation.

Hot shot 3D ghillie. $89

From: fdp
Date: 22-Jan-21

Is the hot shot made on a mesh jacket or poncho?

From: Mtquiver
Date: 22-Jan-21

A few things to consider is if you intend to use one outfit for both Spring turkeys and Fall turkeys. Another consideration is - are you bowhunting or gun hunting. One more thing to think about is - are you going to use a blind. Just some point of consideration. Stay Safe/Shoot Straight. MT

From: Crow#2
Date: 22-Jan-21

I don't know. Guess I better ck. that out.

From: Crow#2
Date: 22-Jan-21

Fdp in the description it says It has a breathable Blind mesh lining

From: Scooby-doo
Date: 22-Jan-21

I would go with the leafy suit, it will fool deer and turkeys as well as the ghilli but way easier to shoot a bow with the leafy suit. Shawn

Don't think the turkeys would care what the suits are called. Blending in and breaking up your outline is what you're after and either style would do the job. Ive had coyotes in very close when wearing a leafy suit, and they sure don't miss much.

Be careful, there are maniacs out there that want to be the first to put their tag on a sasquatch......just sayin !

From: GF
Date: 22-Jan-21

“ I had one of those shaggy ones once it was one big matted mesd.”

Isn’t that when they are just starting to get to be really effective?

I recall watching a documentary on marine/SEAL snipers and how they made their Ghillies… (among other aspects of the training). And as soon as they got done creating something nice and beautiful and fluffy… they started dragging themselves through the mud in them.... I guess when you’re trying to look like dirt, it doesn’t pay to keep too clean.

I can’t tell you for sure which one would work better, but I know which one would make me feel sneakier…

Look on allpredatorcalls.com The Sapper suit they carry is hard to beat.

From: BR

Just seen someone else posted about the sapper. I do have both styles. The true ghillie gets stuff tangled in it all the time and is heavier and hotter.Id go with the leafy suit style.

From: LBshooter
Date: 22-Jan-21

Ghillie S are great but they can be hot, so depending on temps where you hunting.

I’m not being ugly here. I just want to ask. All of us that are recommending the type they would go with including me how many of us actually use one regularly. Just courios. How many of us hunt with them alot

2x the Sapper. They work great

From: shortdraw
Date: 22-Jan-21

Yeller, this past season I used a Sapper every time I hunted. Had bucks inside of 15 yards several times. They never saw me, when they looked at me they seemed to look right through me. Unfortunately there is an antler restriction in my area and I coulden't shoot. I also had squirrels and chipmunks within a foot or two many times and they didn't see me. Even had a couple birds land on me. I think what the sapper does really well is the breaking up of the outline. regular camo doesn't do that. I think when hunters buy camo we don't see it the same as an animal. When it comes to being very close and personal an animal especially a deer is very hard to fool. For me the Sapper has got it done. One more thing, it's a long coat and doesn't have pants. For me that is a big plus. I only had to trim my bow arm sleeve a little, and I cut the built in mask off it. Instead I use a beeny hat and a spandoflage mask. I just pull the Sapper over the beeny and let the strands hang down partially covering my face. Works great, wish I had this set up years ago. JMHO

That’s cool shortdraw. I have been using the guile top for since 93 when I broke my back in half in 92 from tree stand accident string type with same results as you described. I’ve taken many deer and some turkeys I may have to try the sapper. I’m always open to something outside the box. Pm me where you got yours. Tks in advance

A Turkey around here wouldn’t walk up to someone in asat... just saying. Leafy work well for turkey, I use them. First lite leafy or asat for deer are wonderful. It’s a color non color vision thing in my experience

Ranch safari

From: Aeronut
Date: 23-Jan-21

I've used a Rancho Safari Shaggy Suit for several years for still hunting and love it.

If you order a ghilli make sure it comes from a reputable dealer. I bought a ghilli suit one time and the thing was so wadded up and tangled it took me a couple of days to get just the hood untangled and usable. I never tried to untangle the jacket or pants because they were worse than the hood. No reply from the seller when I asked for a refund.

I had enough loose fiber come off of the hood to make another one.

Just don't have the ghillie where it's to big of a blob, smart older ones will pick it out. Blend in not just set in is the way to go for the best use and success.

Using them correctly can be a big game changer.

From: marc

Just make one. A replacement fishing net makes a great cheap base for a sleeveless style. A few yards for burlap from Joanne fabric and cut a hole for your head and slashes for your arms.

From: fdp
Date: 26-Jan-21

Msnc, the one I posted is made just that way. Been doing that for years.

If you turn the net and let the front and back be 2 corners you don't even have to cut arm holes.

From: doubleeagle
Date: 26-Jan-21

ASAT is the best I've used for fooling wild eyes. The yute and netting are good for 2 legged creatures, as I learned in sniper school.

From: GF
Date: 26-Jan-21

“ as I learned in sniper school.”

Pretty sure those guys make the best ones....

Free advice, DE??

Would you buy your burlap at a sewing shop or at a landscaping supply store?

Makes sense to me that you might want to mix in some camo fabric to increase the amount of texture & shadow.... otherwise, the 100% jute approach could leave you looking like a small haystack and entirely out of place…

Maybe the difference is that humans looking for humans are looking for a human, whereas “wild eyes“ are looking for anything that just doesn’t look quite Right.... or wasn’t there yesterday....

From: doubleeagle
Date: 26-Jan-21

ok diy, a bit of help here. We had to glue canvas to the front of our BDU jacket and pants for crawling, no jute or burlap there. The jacket was turned inside out to keep pockets on the inside as crawling snagged a bit and less apt to loose things. The simplest was having a net from a hobby store with 1" squares. You could tie, with a larks-head knot, between 5 and 10 any-color jute strings, little or no burlap, per square. Your first try will not be the best, you will have to adjust amounts and lengths with the help of a buddy. Mixing burlap and jute works but don't get too excited, sometimes less is better.

I am going to try this.

From: Stan

Probably will sound paranoid, but I wouldn't use a ghillie for sneakin around, mostly because I hunt state land in Michigan.. I see more crossbow hunters than compound shooters, and zero recurve,longbow.. Doesn't anyone use the camo netting only? after getting to your ambush spot? I might try a version of that this year.. Seems to be a very simple fix..

Sorry, I noticed this was a turkey hunting thread, but I would be even less likely, during gun season..lol

Ghost blind

From: RymanCat
Date: 26-Jan-21

If your using a blind none of these are going to work.

The blind goes in a field or in an area they are moving through and all black gets worn inside the blind. Even black face but do not let anyone take a picture of that or you could get called out as raciest for black face. LOL

I have 2 sets of lefy wears for on the move birds and they still get stuck on briars.

I wear Hec's underclothes. Knee boots and knee socks over the long underware and you better be spraying to keep tics off you.
