I just got an A black maple and love the color, the grip is a lot thicker than my others still trying to decide if I like it.

I got the 50 yr B because of the thicker grip, I like it. I got the black, because the limbs are black maple wedges, and as much as I like the light wood (and I really like it) the phenolic made it a no deal for me. Looks too pc meal for a $1000 bow, If they made a matching limb set would be nicer, or if they would have stayed with the black maple vs the phenolic, but I still dont like the black plastic. JMO, its your personal taste that matters.

Your absolutely correct, I don’t care to admit I am a bit of a bear fan boy but they need to step up their game ,

I won’t comment about colors/materials as that is more personal choice.
As has been said the grips are much different. The 50th is like the original, so if you like a thinner grip look towards at newer but not anniversary model. (I know grip is personal too)

The grips are a different design, but there is also a LOT of variation in the circumference of the throat. As much aa 1/2" has been measured. If you're picky about grip thickness, have the seller measure if for you. The shape of the Anniversary riser did not bother me, but the throat circumference did.

Those 2 do look different. So the circumference got me wondering, and after checking, the 50 yr is exactly the same circ is my 72 Kodiak Hunter.

There is more hand work done on the riser and grip area of a bow than any other place during the build.
Different people do that work, and different people have different ideas about what is "right or comfortable"

Yep Frank, it's that fit thing again and I think it's still the last thing guys consider. Best grip Bear takedown I ever had was a 1982 green stripe, much better to me than the original wood risers. Notice I said, "to me". :)

I've got a 2015 and 2017 A riser. Both measure 4 3/4". My A Anniversary riser was 5 1/4". I understand it's hand shaping in the grip area but there needs to be some sort of "standard" pattern they should strive for.

That's odd, I just measured 6 wooden "A" risers from a 1970 Type 1 to a 2020 LES-2 and all came in at least 5 1/4". One 2011 was a bit larger at 5 3/8". I have an Anniversary "A" coming sometime this week. Can't wait to measure it. In my limited experience, the wooden "A" risers were always bigger in circumference in the throat than the "B" risers.

So NJStykbow, who's standard would Bear use? And how would it be standardized? I'm sure there is SOME type of standard, but how would it be controlled?

There should be some type of "pattern". Otherwise, every single bow would be completely different...and not just the throat circumference. Pick a number and get close to it is all I'm asking. You should NOT have to wait to receive a bow to find out which end of a 1/2" circumference difference your individual bow is going to have. That's too loose a tolerance IMO. As for who would control it? That's the job of QC when it goes through there.

Maybe just coincidence but my 50 yr B and my old Kodiak hunter that are exactly the same are 5". The shape is really close too other than a sharper line on the outside of the grip on the new TD, and the old Hunter is rounded

FYI- My 2018 A riser has a grip circumference of 5.25". It's smaller than my Hoyt Pro Medalist and my Howatt Hunter with bow saddle. They come in at 5.5". My Drake is at 5" and my 76er, with added plastic grip, is 4.75". I prefer 5". However, grip shape is most important.
