My buddy just got a black hunter and said it was the best bow he has ever shot. Not sure if they are that good or they are just cheap and guys like em for that. What do you guys say? Who has one and uses it for their primary bow?

From: SuperK
Date: 17-Jan-21

I do! I like it as much as any bow I have had. I've had many that were better looking but they didn't shoot any better.

From: Boker
Date: 17-Jan-21

I had one and hate to say it but it was as good as some of my beloved bows.

that is what my buddy said. I have heard that before. how is that possible?

From: Glunt@work

Bows aren't that complicated. Guys have created great performing bows on their own in their garage's for years. A company with some R&D money can easily come up with a good shooter. The rest is balancing cost with attention to detail, fit and finish. With economy of scale and lower costs in other parts of the world, its not a surprise to me. My son shoots what looks to be about the same bow with clear glass and exotic woods under a different name. Cost more than the basic one but still a lot less than a custom. Shoots great but cosmetically up close its nothing like a hand-made custom. From 10' away it's pretty.

I have Galaxy Embers , both lb & rec. I like the way they shoot. Have several other bows I like better all of the others cost a lot more.

From: Red Beastmaster
Date: 17-Jan-21

I've shot a lot of bows. I've shot a lot of bows really well. I shoot my Black Hunter longbow better than any of them!

It just fits. The grip and relationship of where the arrow lies with my hand is a perfect match for me. Add to that the 42# smooth drawing limbs and perfectly flying 1816 arrows. If I do my part the arrow will go where I want.

It is an easy bow to shoot well. Everyone who has one will tell you the same thing. It has ZERO to do with its economical price.

From: Red Beastmaster
Date: 17-Jan-21

You also asked if it was my primary bow. No, it's not. In spite of being my best shooting bow I have others I use just as much. I hunted with the Black Hunter in PA's early season, used one of my longbows during gun season, then hunted the late season with one of my recurves. I switch bows often.

From: gluetrap

had one n shot very well. almost as good as my bb riser n sage limbs.

From: Knifeguy
Date: 17-Jan-21

I also have a BH-LB @45# and just love it. I have only unstrung it a couple of times since buying it and it shoots as good or better than bows that I’ve paid 4-5 the amount. Lance

I agree Glunt. I shoot the first bow I ever made. Made it in 92. Shoots good but not very good looking. Doesn’t look anything like a Blacktail but shoots good. Isn’t rocket science. Guess you can pay more for a good looking bow.

I bought a light poundage one to work on my form but I prefer my Quinn It is a good little bow for the money and more .

Three weeks ago I received a new 30# Black Hunter recurve. Draw weight is actually 32.5# @ 28". I twisted up a D97/B50 blended string, installed 4 short pieces of rubber hackle for silencers and the bow is now quiet and nice to shoot. Riser stain looks good, finish is fine, no chips or visible voids in riser, limb- to-riser fit is very good, great design. The riser is quite heavy and the physical weight on this bow is actually 2 oz more than my Sage TD. I have shot the bow every day since it arrived and it's quickly becoming my favorite for the backyard.

My primary bow is a Bear Montana. However, I have a Black Hunter long bow. I bought this because it was cheap and packs down to a very small size. Because of how small it packs, I can take it on my motorcycle. As far as how it shoots, if that was the only bow I had, I absolutely would not feel handicapped going to a 3d shoot or hunting with it. It is smooth and accurate with good speed.

I have the three piece Longbow. I like it but its very noisy. Guess I have some tuning to do.

I really want to try one of these bows. This is a tough crowd here. If so many people here say that a cheap import bow shoots as good or better than their American made customs, I have to believe them.

From: George D. Stout
Date: 18-Jan-21

We've been led to believe you have to spend a lot of money for high priced bows, when in fact they are not any more accurate than low priced ones of decent build. You pay mostly for name, custom woods and other foo foo. Accuracy is and always has been in the archer, not the weapon, but people will try to convince you otherwise because they still believe they can buy their way to being a good shooter. Fit is ten times more important than what brand of bow you use.

From: David Mitchell
Date: 18-Jan-21

I have the Galaxy Ember version, two risers and three sets of limbs. I've bought and sold a bunch of custom bows over the years, but these aren't going anywhere. The grip is one of the best feeling I have ever had. Performance is excellent. It has become my go-to bow.

If you were wondering about these bows, look up, Destruction test on a Black Hunter, on the tube.

From: Longcruise
Date: 18-Jan-21

George and others here have accurately stated it.

I have the Sage with three sets of limbs and it truly is a do- all. At current cost of materials, the sage and one set of limbs cost less than the materials for one of my builds.

But I will continue to build bows because it's a fun and fascinating endeavor unto itself.

If I weren't a builder, I'd be smack dab in Stix's camp.

From: Ranger Joe

I gotta agree with what most say here! My Ember is my (Go To Bow) Very happy with it! (Long bow limbs- 50lbs @ 28)

From: reddogge
Date: 18-Jan-21

It's actually not a bad looking bow, in fact, nice looking. If the limbs perform as well as the ILF version of the inexpensive limbs, the TT Black Max, then it is a winner.

From: Wapitidung

I put a quality B50 on the Bow and yarn puff balls. She's quiet now.

I like mine, shoots quite well, really like the price. I also like the Sage and shoot it a little better, probably the longer length, but the BH is better feeling grip. That said, I also build my own bows. So why would I buy a cheaper manufactured bow? 1. I can’t buy materials to build one for what I have in the other bows! 2. Sickness has prevented me from building lately. 3. Shooting any brand that fits me okay I can miss just as well! But I will continue building if able again. I like using something I made, I like beautiful veneers under clear glass, and I love building.

I've had my black hunter longbow for I think three years now, 50@28. I shoot it as well as any bow I own and better than most of them. That is why I like it, not the low cost. Mine was from Twig Archery and has the bamboo limb core. I can't say it's my primary bow simply because I may hunt with a different bow any given day,but it is one of my primary bows.

If the only thing in your way is the cosmetics, try Eric at HitMan. He can get them with upgraded appearance.

I’m about ready to get one just as a “back-up” for travel, because one of these days I might go someplace again....

Not sure, but my sons Fleetwood sure could be a BH with fancy wood and clear glass. They either come from the same factory or one is a clone in design.

The low cost bows shoot very well. I own two--a Bear Wolverine and a SAS Spyder. Each is rated at 40 lbs. The Bear feels 40, while the Spyder feels a bit more. For 40 lb bows they are shockingly smooth and hit with authority. Together I spent about 250. Heard a TON of good things about the Black Hunter boes.

I'm sure the Black Hunter is a fine bow. But, I won't buy a bow made in China if there are alternatives.

Heck, we buy "china made stuff" when it's an american company, lol. Hard to keep those things straight anymore.

Does anyone sell the Black Hunter recurve here in the states? Getting a bow from overseas takes a loooooooong time these days.

From: Supernaut
Date: 21-Jan-21

Lancaster Archery carries the Galaxy Ember (same thing as the Black Hunter). I ordered mine form them a couple years ago and couldn't have been happier with the customer service. If you order from them you can have them verify the weights on the limbs being correctly marked. I really like the way the bow shoots and fits me as well.

From: streamguy

Twig Archery in Ohio carries them.

This thread got me interested. After watching youtube video's about them I ordered one. It should be here Saturday. I never had a takedown longbow. I ordered a 55lb longbow version. I ordered a sinoart off amazon for $104 let see what happens. Interested to see how it compares to my Black Widow LAG AMO 66. I will let you know how it goes.

From: Tree

They are a very good shooting and stable rugged bow and at that price point its hard not to have one. I shoot mine as well as my custom bow and the grip is perfect for me. I also didn't mind painting it and don't mind if it gets scratches the way I do on $1000 plus bow.

From: bobbinhood Professional Bowhunters Society - Associate Member

I have the Galaxy Ember and like it very much! I have a high wrist grip and this what my Galaxy has! his has become my No. 1 bow! I have both limbs in recurve and longbow, I've always been a curve guy! But I'll have to admit the longbow limbs have won my heart! I have two Blacktails that now sit in my bow case! My Blacktails were just refinished by Alan Pope and they look like new so I'll keep them looking nice and shoot my Galaxy! Most of our bows are GREAT, its up to US to be as GOOD!

From: northerner

I bought my Black Hunter recurve last month from SinoArt on Amazon. I was expecting some flaws but was pleasantly surprised when it arrived. The riser is a heavy grey laminated wood (maple?) with no chips, no gouges, no dents and no small chunks missing. The finish is smooth and complete. The limb- to-riser fit is very good with no overhanging edges. Limbs look fine with no finish runs. I checked tiller last night, after reading about others having various readings. My tiller is at 1/8" and the bow shoots fine.

With the 32# BH recurve (labelled as 30#) I'm shooting a blended 10 strand Flemish string with 4 strands D97 and 1 strand B50 in each of the lams. The bow is quiet and shoots 172fps with 9.8gpp arrows at 31# draw.

The bow came with string, string silencers, hair rest, limb pads (for quietening - I don't use), long hex wrench for limbs, string nocks, and bow stringer. Free shipping and no tax was added. It arrived in 4 or 5 days. One year warranty.

This bow has already been much better than my expectations. I have launched hundreds of arrows with it already. If it continues to stay together I will be happy.

Does anyone know if the Black Hunter riser is a copy from another bow (length, contours, limb angles, etc)?
