I came across a set of three beautiful J. Hodek bows from the 1950’s. Has anyone leaned anything more about him? How long he made bows, any family kids, grandkids etc? I know he was a skilled cabinet maker in Traverse City, MI and Cliff Coe had a picture of him. Two of the bows have serial numbers so I am thinking he was making and selling them for awhile. Beautiful bows. Any info would be appreciated.

Wooden glass, fine tips on all three bows. The kids bow is really neat no markings but I strung it and shot a few arrows out of it. Probably 15#. Very nice work.

In Cliff Coe's book-44 Years Behind The Bow, on page 102 is a picture of Jim Hodek. Many other leaders of bow hunting are in this book. A great read.

Hodek also made arrows I have an arrow box and arrows from his store in T.C. all part of the rich history of archery from michigan.

Doug; please post a picture of the arrows and box. I am curious if they match the arrows I got with the bows.

Hard to tell from the picture but if I had to guess I would say the arrows were reflected from original shafts and new field points put on.

I'd call that pretty darn cool.

These are the arrows that came with the bows. Definitely out of the 50’s. The guy told me that his sisters father-in-law lived in traverse city and knew J. C. Hodek. He had the three bows made for him. After seeing the card I’d say it’s a good possibility he made these arrows as well although tough to know without talking to the man.
