Found this in a box with fishing and archery stuff at a yard sale.what is it..fly tying jig?

it's just a very adjustable magnifier with a lightweight holding clip...I use one because I'm almost blind and it helps when I'm soldering wires and such.

A Solder Buddy or Helping Hands

It's called a Third Hand.

I won one as a club prize. As mentioned above it's very handy when soldering two wires together - or for holding other small parts when gluing or silver-soldering.

Some do and have used them positioned in front of a fly tying vice to aid in seeing well.

Some folks also use them with a finished fly in the alligator clip to add details like painted eyes on streamers, paint schemes on hard body poppers, epoxy Bonefish and Permit flies etc..

And some of us use it to find our zipper...but not me. Mine is for flies. (At my age it is not that funny.)

I have one I paid a few $ for from Harbor freight and has a magnetic foot to it as well. Always in their catalog if you have a HF near by.

All my “fly fishing” is now strictly catch and release, and with barbless hooks... Gone are the days of having to worry about measuring anything. (Sigh).
