I've asked this thread to be debate free. As this is informational only!

So I've pondered having GN build me a Fireball or Ghost. I just got off the phone with Great Northern. A man by the name of Eric answered the phone. I'm sorry I did not exactly get his last name (I'm very hard of hearing). I will when he calls me back. He has purchased the bow side of the company from Bob Brumm. He has known the Brumms for 20+ years. I don't know his bowyer experience.

He was nice and pleasant and is getting me some info I requested.

With Predator closing and GN bows now sold it is certainly interesting times.

Like I said this is informational only!!!! Nothing good or bad should be inferred from this posting.

Well the good thing is they aren't closing up shop yet.

There have been so many bows that aren't available any more like Howard, Savage, Groves, and so on.

Hopefully he keeps making the Ghost.

It better that it was sold than closed.

Well I hope the quality doesn’t change as I was hoping to buy one in the future.

All business changes hands, nothing new about that. People get older and just get tired of the business, or there may be other mitigating circumstances. They've been in business a long time with Rick and Jerry so folks had plenty of time to get one of they really wanted one.

All my best to those involved.

He called me back with the requested info. Eric Reitsma is his name. Seems very knowledgable and is commited to continuing the GN tradition of quality, customer service, and performance. Has worked with both Brumms for roughly 20 years. Any concerns I personally had from my first phone call were eliminated with the 2nd call.

I also spoke with Eric and he confirmed the sale/purchase. He also stated that he will continue to make the Ghost model bow.

As often as things change, they remain the same. All the best to the new owner.

Just spoke to Bob Brumm, the Great Northern Bow Company has been sold. Its in good hands with the new owner. Bob will maintain the Great Northern Quiver Company. It was a good run!!

"the Great Northern Bow Company has been sold" that is what the OP said in the first post.

Nontypicallongbows

Yes Predator/Hunters Niche is gone. Once current inventory is sold, of which there is little, the doors close. Sad.

I too wish nothing but the best for them. GN is a staple in the business as far as I’m concerned. Good luck Eric!!

Hopefully they will continue to build good quality bows. I have owned several of them and they are fantastic bows !

Wow! It seems like Jerry just handed over the reins to his son Bob a couple of years ago. I've talked with Bob soon after that to see if he would bring back the critter getter. He did, and I hope Mr. Eric Reitsma will continue to do so.

Best to Eric and the Brumms.

I have two GNs, one was a heavy Ghost built for me back when I was as studly as I ever got, and the other one is a folding Bushbow.

Seems to me…

If a guy had spent the better part of his lifetime (and probably some of the best years of his life!) building up a business around a product that he was passionate about, there’s not a snowball’s chance he would sell it to anyone he didn’t trust to preserve the legacy.

And I expect there’s not enough money in making bows that anyone would make him some ridiculous offer that he couldn’t refuse.

Also doesn’t seem like the sort of business that anyone with a lick of sense would expect to be able to buy and somehow uncover efficiencies and economies of scale that the previous owner had overlooked so that suddenly, somehow, miraculously… there WOULD magically be a lot of money in making bows. That’s the sort of thing that Big Business does, and Big Business thinking does not generally translate well to a cottage industry. It often doesn’t even seem to apply well to mid sized businesses, either…

So I’d expect the business is in good hands. And if anything should go south, word will get around.... and probably faster than is fair to the new owner. Nobody is perfect all of the time, and yes, mistakes get made and sometimes things go Bad for reasons that are virtually in preventable... At which point people should be willing to tolerate any disappointment as long as the situation is handled well.

So JMO, best of luck and best wishes to all concerned.

My most recent Ghost was built by Eric so I think the sale happened sometime ago. I bought the bow last year
