I have some carbon shafts that I would like to crown and I'm not sure what to use. They can be made up plain of course but being a woodie guy I'd like to dress them up a bit.

I use water base acrylic on wood but don't think it would be workable 9n carbon.

Wraps would work, im sure but the method just doesn't appeal to me.

What are the options?

Just about any good paint will stick. I've used enamel, and I've used lacquer. Usually done it spray on.

Spray enamel, rough the top 7"s with sandpaper, wipe with acetone or rubbing alcohol and than tape off. Spray a lite coat let dry good, evena whole day, lightly sand wipe and spray again. # coats that way and your crown is pretty darn tough!! Shawn

Do you need a specific glue for your fletchings on spray-paint?

I have had good luck with Rustolem 2X for outdoor use. After I crest I wipe on waterbased Polycrillic. For shaft prep I just wiped down with Acetone. These are GT trads

@M60 - is that polycrilic the same as the wipe-on poly?

This is Rustoleum Fusion. They have held up at least 5 - 6 years of hard 3-D use.

GF, it’s polycrillic, not polyethylene. But I have used both over the last 7 years. Buy a pint can stuff lasts a long time. I use a foam brush to apply. Very lite coats, 2 or 3 is enough. I have used Saunders NPV glue and Bohning Fletch Tite besides the tape. Also the SG from Gorilla Glue with the blue cap. On woods I even used Ducco over the finish’s .

Reddogge, those are real nice looking arrows. Something about all white that just looks cool to me. Old school maybe is word I am looking for. Anyway looks like my next dozen will be all white.

All nice looking arras and very helpful tips. I guess I was hoping to be told my water based process would work but it looks like I'll be moving to oil based on the carbons.

Thanks for the input.

I’ve roughed up the surface pretty well with steel wool and acetone to clean and I’ve used the same Bohning crown dip you would use on wood shafts. After a few coats they turning out nice and held up well

01ARCHER86, I orginally tried dipping in Fletch Laq. At the time I was heaviely vested in Bohning products. I did not do so well. I did my usual prep for aluminum shafts. Later I found out there was a film of slick stuff for easy arrow removal. By then I had moved on .
