America leathers crossover glove has a thin piece of plastic in the finger stalls . That’s what I have been told anyway. What is the the purpose of plastic . It make no sense to me .

To reinforce the finger stalls. Put a glove on, grab a string and see how the stalls are bending. That piece of plastic is there to prevent the total collapse of the stalls

How can you feel the string with the plastic in there?

Buy it and try it and you will understand. Even the Howard Hill gloves have the plastic inserts and I doubt the Man wanted "to feel the string".

I got one of their gloves but it had the nylon overlay, I’d like one with a little thinner finger stalls.

I have one of the orginal ones. The insert is very thin. Even with my light weight 45# bows I can feel the string.

You can feel the string enough with the plastic insert. I have gone down to 40lbs recently and I can feel the string. The American Leather Buffalo hide crossover is the best glove ever made in my opinion. Boker it sounds like you had the Big Shot glove. I never liked that thick nylon material on the outside of the stalls.

I use the American Leather’s Big Shot and the Bearpaw Speed Glove. Both have thick finger stalls. When I hook my fingers onto the string I can feel that the string is properly held in a deep hook. That’s the only time I need to “ feel the string.”
The thick stall gloves produce a far better release than the thinner leather gloves I used to own.

Reinforcement and finger protection.
Also did not care for the LARGE fingers of the big shot. Crossover is my favorite in buffalo. I remember reading it is a little thicker than the kangaroo leather, helps with long shooting sessions. I can "feel the string" just fine.

Crossover. Wouldn't that be a station wagon in 1960?

I have used the Big Shot and Full Shot. Both nice gloves. I am using the new Kangaroo leather one now. I think I LIKE it THE BEST. TIME WILL TELL. I don't think would like the crossover with the plastic inserts.

No George they had station wagons before 1960. That may have been before your time! The latest "crossover" is these SUV's that will barely fit a longbow.

I have a kangaroo crossover, one of the guys had 3 that needed repairs to the finger stalls. Since I have some roo laying around, I repaired them and he let me keep one. The plastic you all are referring to is a ziptie btw. I replaced most of them with slightly wider zipties. I use a strip of flexible cutting board in mine. Was more comfortable after that. You can open the stitching to the ziptie pocket at the finger tips and remove/add any material you want. if you're careful you can split the seam and melt the ends with no ill effects. If I remember correctly, guys like Hill used feather quills in their stalls.
I've been working on my own Roo crossover style glove, haven't decided on roo or cordovan for the fingers and mine will be 2 fingers only, since that's what I've got to work with. lol

I went to crossover to help with finger numbness or damaged nerve from shooting to much with a light glove. Solved my finger issue. I used athletic tape and a light glove for a while, however was a chore to tape up and shoot, if you wanted to shoot a few arrows two or three times per day. Key word protection.

I don't know about the crossover but really like the American Big Shot.I can get a lot cleaner release off of the string than any thing else Ive tried and I use a real deep hook.Everybody is different though....

I got a new crossover in the mail yesterday. I am impressed. It doesn't feel like a lot of break in will be required. I got a super clean crisp release right away. Pretty spendy but I'd say its the best glove I've ever shot.

I tried to order one but kept having issues, I call my card issuer and they said it was on American leathers end.
I would like to try the kangaroo crossover.
