I bought a Great Plains longbow on the 3rd of this month. I've been tracking it through out. It has been stuck on the Jan.4th, saying that my arrival date has been pushed back, but is on it's destination. It hasn't changed in 5 days. Maybe I am wrong, but i would think that the bow would have arrived at another post office or distribution center within these 5 days? Maybe i am just paranoid8^)). The bow was shipped only a 7hr trip from my house. Maybe I should've made a road trip and picked it up. 8^)

yes the mail is that slow. I had three items coming mailed on dec. 16th just got them 2 days ago. jan 7th

From: Stuart
Date: 09-Jan-21

It will arrive. Same thing happed to me sending a bow to someone. Took quite a while, but arrived safe and sound. Frustrating as heck too.

Well, that's what i thought. I was getting paranoid. 8^)))))))))))

From: Eric Sprick

Frustrating for sure. Dealt with that with a couple of bows this past year and recently some shafts that took 28 days. 99.9% confident it will arrive. It'll drive ya nuts though.

Took me 5 weeks to get a bow that should have been 3 or 4 days.Just wait. It sucks I know

Try UPS !

From: Luckyshot

Yes I've noticed that same thing with USPS. But I just mailed a bow from Mississippi to Kansas via UPS and it arrived in about 3 days. Hope you get it quickly. I love those great plains bows. I've toured Shane's shop and he is a great guy. Hope you like it.

It's a crap shoot. Last bow I received arrived a day sooner than tracking said. The bow before that one was almost 3 weeks late, so you just can't figure.

It took 25 days for an order of 2 books to arrive at my house from NJ. No tracking info was ever posted.

We got a Christmas card today that was mailed dec 14 from NJ to NY. WTF?

From: Billy Singleton

Yes I know the feeling, I am still waiting on a bow that was shipped on 12/16 . I mailed payment on the same day and it has not arrived either.

From: Boker
Date: 09-Jan-21

I shipped a bow on December 18 was supposed to been there in 3 days It arrived January 8th with few few updates

Think it was something like 18 days late.

The buyer like to have drove me nuts and I was freaking out because I didn’t take out any extra insurance.

I have shipped and received a lot of bows and never had a issue till this one.

USPS is way behind, my postal office told me they had containers full of mail that is just waiting to be sorted with no one free to do it.

I mailed a package to Franklin, TN from MD Priority Mail on Dec 11 and it has not arrived. It was still in MD two days ago but left MD. Still no word. I am worried because this bird was hand carved by me and only insured for $50.

From: fishone

I would suggest not to use the USPS. I shipped 3 bows and received one in Dec. All 4 bows took 3 weeks each to get to their destinations. But they did make it safe and sound. I just shipped another bow UPS and it took 3 days.

UPS! A buddy of mine that’s a well known bowyer just made the switch and said it’s the best thing he’s ever done. All it took was for USPS to snap a dymondwood riser on a 3 piece takedown into two pieces recently. The bow was a gift for his son in law and while paying $65 for express service, it took 3.5 weeks to get to the destination. After switching to UPS he said some bows are even making their destinations the very next day. A little more money but a lot less headaches.

I sent a check to a buddy for a bow from Arkansas to Virginia , he sent the bow the same day on UPS , It took the bow 3 days, the check took 12 business days on usps .. I avoid usps all I can

I wouldn’t worry too much guys. I mailed a bow a couple weeks before Christmas to GA from MN. Bow got there in 5 days. Payment was coming to me from OH. Took over 3 weeks! Not faulting USPS, they’ve been pretty good for me. The lady at local PO told me the Cleveland hub was shut down due to COVID and all mail was diverted through Pittsburgh. Can you imagine the workload there! They can only do so much! Most were working double shifts before Christmas!

From: shootemstraight1

My last bow took 26 days to get from PA to IL with no tracking updates until it was delivered. You might just be getting started in your wait. It will show up. Just hope it’s in the same condition as when it left. You just never know anymore.

I suggest we all take a deep breath and give the USPS a break. They have a lot of folks out due to Covid. On line sales and packages are at humongous record levels. Places like Amazon and UPS dump their excess packages on the USPS to deliver. Senior administrators are politically appointed and are incompetent and/or politically motivated. It's going to take some time to right the ship.

From: sir misalots

USPS has really dropped the ball lately around here. Covid has been the new excuse for people to due a shi%$ job

From: Nrthernrebel05
Date: 09-Jan-21

It has been very slow recently. Due to COVID there has been a unprecedented increase in mail volume causing these delays. Most postal workers are good workers doing their job. You can only do so much when you are buried under overwhelming volume.

let me ask you a question,, would you work for the post office right now??

From: GF
Date: 09-Jan-21

Just keep breathing!

And if the worst should come to pass, honestly, you’re not out anything.

‘Twas the shipper who paid the post office and the insurance, and if the package doesn’t make it, then they’ll return your money and will have to duke it out with USPS themselves.

But I would definitely let the sender know of your concerns, so that they can go to the local PO and inquire as to the status. It’s amazing how, sometimes a visit or a phone call to the local office can cause a package to miraculously appear on a truck the next day. Pretty sure that’s exactly what happened with a “three day” package I’m waiting on which is now 30 days overdue. Dropped off 12/7, last seen 12/11, and zero updates until yesterday afternoon.

From all the roports I've seen most problems are in the northeast.

I mailed a riser priority mail, insured on Dec. 12 headed to Philadelphia, PA. Got a report that it left the local post office that day; got another report on Dec. 16, said it would be late but still moving in the system--nothing since.

I filed a report a week ago and filed for the insurance claim today. So.... we shall see.

My daughter has an on line business. Same thing happened to one of her mail outs. She inquired about it with a supervisor at the mail out location and take action alone got it moving. An aunt mailed me a Christmas card on 12/19/20. We got it on 1/7/21.

From: Nodak

I bought a bow on the 20th of December. A good guy here on the site sold it to me and he makes his own labels. He got to the post office and such a long line he put the package in the mail out area without getting the receipt, now it shows on the tracking waiting for the item. They mailed it and never scanned it. We have no way of knowing where it is in the system. The guy is a great guy here on the site and I know he mailed it, but my suggestion to anyone in the future, always get your receipt it's the only thing we have to hold the Post office accountable. It's a crazy time and I know things are hard for the post office. We are being patient but until this all goes away I don't think I will be using the post office unless totally necessary.

They lost a $750 fishing reel in Dec. I filed a claim that they have denied even though it was insured. Going through the process of appealing is a challenge to say the least. It’s as if no one is in charge.

USPS took a big hit in October when the Postmaster General removed the automated sorting machines. On-line shopping or holidays just added to the issue. I had a package sit in NC or over 4 weeks back in late October. The seller refunded my money and then the next day it showed up. My recent shipping has been a week or so. UPS has gotten really expensive, but better tracking info.

What I have found is that companies such as Amazon/Stormy Kromer/LL Bean can get something to you within a few days. Not always sure if they use USPS or Federal Express but they seem to have things figured out.On the other hand I did get scammed buying something over internet from a company I was'nt familiar with which took 2 months and was a total fraud.

From: reddogge

My only suggestion with USPS is to ship Priority Mail with a tracking number. If it doesn't show up and you are getting the dreaded "In Transit, Package will be delayed" message, open a case with them. They will give you updates, sometimes two a day on whether they located the package and where it is and it's progress. This may not speed it along but in my case let me know daily where the package was so I was fairly certain it would arrive and it did (after 30 days).

From: huntmaster70

I sent a package from NY to NJ priorty on Dec. 8th- still says in transit !

From: reddogge

From: Verdeburl

The USPS has been a big problem for many. I really do not know what is going on. Maybe employees with Covid, etc.. My Brother was waiting on a package from Michigan to Pa.. It arrive the other day. The tracking showed it sitting at one location for 7 weeks. It took almost 2 full months for a priority small package to make that journey. I sure do not know what is happening, but what ever it is--it isn't good.

From: steve
Date: 12-Jan-21

Huntmaster70, patience young grasshopper ! That is ridiculous ! I keep seeing reasons for the crap service from the USPS, like covid, overload from amazon, understaffed etc.I had many problems with the USPS long before any of this crap came down the pike in "NORMAL" times. That's why I went to UPS years ago. Never a problem with them, ever !

From: nowheels

I haven’t shipped anything recently, so I don’t have any actual experience other than reading about all the frustrations from others.

As far as USPS and their tracking numbers, I don’t put a lot of faith in them. I have bought things in the past and received the item, yet the tracking number would still show the package sitting in a distribution center somewhere 1,000 miles away.

From: GF
Date: 13-Jan-21

Just for All Y’all’s information....

The box of arrows that Bodark sent my way on December 7 arrived this morning. they had completely disappeared into the system for over a month between updates. The box did look a little bit as if it had been lost in the postal system for five weeks, but absolutely no damage… So take heart fellas; just take it as it comes!

From: John Horvers
Date: 13-Jan-21

Sometimes it helps move items if you go into the USPS website and file a report for missing packaging, especially when you haven’t received any updates for a week. This forces your hometown PO to initiate a search and I have used it several times and “lo and behold” it starts moving again.

Same thing here fellas, went to track a bow coming to me and they quit sending tracking info, sounds like they lost it. Mine is only two days overdue, will wait and see.

Regarding my post above......when the bow I sent to Michigan didn’t arrive on the expected date I opened a “ where’s my package” cade online. I received an email from usps on the 21st thanking me for my patience and saying that since the issue has been resolved ( which it hasn’t) I should wait 14 days from receiving the email to file an insurance claim. After waiting 45 minutes on hold I was finally able to speak with a customer service representative who could not resolve the issue and told me to call back after the 14 day wait.

First let me say I know USPS is certainly slower these days. Purchased a bow on Monday , it got picked up Tuesday late afternoon. It move to first stop by 4 am Thursday. It’s been stalled there for 31 hours plus. I’m hopeful tracking will show it’s moving closer soon. Always worry when there are delays but I’m sure everything will be okay.

Hope that EVERYONE has gotten their stuff that was shipped via the USPS. A friend helped me to get an electric blanket from ZON. Shipped from NY state on Jan 4th via Priority Ground. Finally arrived to my local PO on Jan the 19th. A lot of the tracking showed the pkg "stalled" in Southern Connecticut. My Question concerns the VIRUS? The disease was around for at least 9 months so why did the USPS not have a plan to compensate for this problem?

My new bow has not arrived yet, it was mailed from Indiana last Saturday and sent to Oklahoma then sat there for four days and finally someone woke up and sent it on to Florida.

Why did they send it to Oklahoma is beyond me!!!

It hasn't arrived and they won't tell me when it will, I am sure they don't know where it is, they are just hoping that it shows up eventually, they obviously don't care about their customers anymore.

I am talking about USPS.

I to have packages lost, arrows in limbo since 7th another set as not moved since 13th and a bow that was shipped a week ago still in same area it left. usps did cut backs as in no more over time so if it did not make it out by quiting time it gets left for the next day. then if doesnt make it agin it goes on the next day pile after so long the next day pile keeps getting larger, so it never moves.

I shipped a longbow to montana via UPS today. Printed a label at the house, taped it to the tube, and dropped it off at ace hardware.....a couple more dollars for a lot less of a headache. It’s long journey is already underway...nice to check a tracking number for once with my package actually moving and not rotting in usps purgatory.

I shipped a longbow February 5th priority insured and getting the dreaded in transit. A recently retired postal worker said if it can be machine stamped it shouldn’t be affected. An odd shape box or long tube may end up in a truck with no one to unload it. A recurve and arrows shipped February 8th made it in 3 and 5 days respectivelt

It happens I sent a bow to Anchorage Alaska. One of mine. Normally takes 5 to 7 days. This time, maybe weather, maybe Covid it took a little bit over 2 weeks. Yes I started to worry. But USPS has always come through for me. I get a little bit worried after a little bit but then I settle down. I know they will come through. Where I work now. Bossman ordered a TV online, from Washington. FedEx delivered it, and it had a hole in the box. So happened to be on the wrong side of the box, which the screen was on. No bueno. Had a big crack in the screen right where the hole was. So packaging makes a difference. Now they have to do a claim and get another TV for four the new pain clinic down below. JF PS it happens.

I’m rather tired of the excuses.... covid.... snow etc...... they have no problem taking the money though for guaranteed priority delivery..... CROOKED!!!!

I’ve not been a complainer about USPS until today. Right before Christmas, I sent a 1 piece longbow to Spokane, WA for $20.80. Today, I go to send out a Bear KM, a smaller and lighter package to a destination half as faraway - $31.10! What the hell happened? This is the Covid-19 inflation I have been worried about, since now living on a fixed income.

It is a sad state of affairs for an American institution that we all had such pride in, and depended upon no less than water and electricity. I have plenty of personal sad stories ( including the check to my taxidermist 20 miles away that took A MONTH TO BE DELIVERED). I have been complaining for months and trying to read the news behind the news about how the gov't and the USPS are trying to get their heads above water. That said, I have even written to my Senators asking for their appreciation of this mess and for help. Form letter reply as expected. The reason for bothering to rewrite the obvious, is to say: INSTEAD OF TELLING SAD STORIES HERE, PLEASE GET ONTO YOUR COMPUTERS AND SEND YOUR THOUGHTS TO THE GOV'T INCLUDING THE USPS, YOUR SENATORS, AND ANYWHERE ELSE THAT IT MIGHT JUST COUNT.

Somehow when I ship boxes of rocks (obsidian) they all make it within 3 days. But my new bow and my snake skins from a different state both just say “arriving later than expected” and both have the last update as departing their respective distribution center. Ones from Colorado and ones from South Carolina. Dang it.

Yeah ,the mail is not what it use to be, mailed bow Feb.4th 3rd day priority disappeared till 2/16 90 miles away in Tulsa Ok.then in transit as of 2/25/ 21 ,its supposed to be headed to Los Angeles Ca. but its anybody's guess when it will show up. And usps .com is no help at all. think Tulsa Ok. is the hang up in Oklahoma

From: Shank

Do any of you people that are complaining work for the post office or have any idea what we, who work for the post office, are going through? If you don’t, then stop complaining. Some hubs are operating with 3 people per shift when there should be 30. Some, due to state restrictions, had to shut down. I’ve also talked to some of the UPS drivers and they shut down for a week due to working too many hours. So, I know for a fact that they are behind and overwhelmed just as well. And, who do you think USPS contracts with to deliver their packages as well as the ones sent through USPS? Yes, UPS and FedEx. We are just a tad busy right now so chill.

From: Rick

a tad slow! I had 3 packages mailed 2nd day delivery all three took over a month all tracking would tell me is in transit.

From: Jeepdog
Date: 26-Feb-21

Shank, I understand where you're coming from but you shouldn't take these comments personally. I am sure most everyone is blaming the USPS as a whole, rather than the workers. It is a beaurocracy like any other and is suffering because of it.

I personally think the USPS is robbing people by charging premium fees for faster service but not providing that service. I've had packages shipped for the minimum arrive long before next day or 2 day packages. That is the real issue. They owe an awful lot of people a refund.

From: steve
Date: 26-Feb-21

Shank, see one of my posts above. I've had horrible service with the postal service for years, long before the covid and lack of employees excuses. So go blow smoke up someone else's backside. And yes I have worked in the postal hubs as an independent electrical contractor, pathetic. I actually witnessed two postal employees at the Harrisburg PA hub get into a knock down drag out bloody fist fight over which one was responsible to handle ONE LETTER ! HERO'S

From: Chaz
Date: 26-Feb-21

The “ i’ve never had a problem with USPS” folks are irrelevant! It’s those of us that have is the issue here according to the thread. Even priority is taking 1 to 2 weeks here in the Midwest, well at least here in southeast Kansas. There’s no rhyme or reason why some items make it on time and others take days or weeks. Strange. It will make it it’s just a matter of when . Businesses are pulling their hair out Because the customer many times blamed the seller. I think I’m going to start using UPS or FedEx only.

From: newell38 Compton's Traditional Bowhunters

People want a service they pay for including myself. Not fair to call them “gasbags”. That’s pretty tacky to be honest. I’m almost certain the name calling wouldn’t happen if not for the safety of a monitor and a keyboard. I enjoy your posts and you seem like a fine fella but your political opinions on a country that isn’t yours grows tiresome. I couldn’t imagine sitting in my house and complaining about what my neighbors are having for dinner. I think you need to go out and shoot some of those browning explorers

From: Pdiddly

newel38

I have been a postal worker for 45 years...delivered mail for 32 years. Hence my comment...

What Shank said was 100% accurate.

In the middle of this pandemic you are not going to get normal service. The system is trying to deal with excessive volumes with limited staff due to illness and social distancing measures. This is not deliberate and people are not lazy and stupid.

Fair comment is fine and I understand the frustration...I have no issue with people relating their experiences. My comment was not directed at them.

But when you write this:

"It’s called underworked and overpaid with all the great benefits, annual leave pay, paid vacations, paid sick leave, paid 8 hours a day but only having to work 3 hours a day and just plain spoiled rotten and considered special just like the Teachers union ect..........:-(

Then you're being a gasbag...and it's fair to call that BS out.

GOOD NEWS FOR ME TODAY! Bow and snake skins showed up. Box looked a little crushed but in the 3 hours my bows been here I’ve spent 2 out shooting and finding arrows it likes. And while your uninformed and shallow opinion on postal workers is likely wildly acceptable on some other forums run by folks dubiously blessed with your political slant, your brand of uniformed viitriol does not belong on this trad bow forum.

The woman who delivers our mail must be scared of walking. She will stuff everything she can into the box, so she doesn't have to walk to the porch. A few weeks back, she crammed it so full, I couldn't pull a small box out. I'm not exactly a 98 pound weakling, but I had to cut the box open and empty it so I could compress it enough to get the rest of my mail out. I've watched her spend a lot more time stuffing the mailbox than it would take her to walk to the porch.

Here is a positive note, I put a recurve bow in the mail March 1st and got a note from the buyer that he received in in Rhode Island yesterday in time to examine and shoot it for a couple hours. Shipping cost was $26.50 with extra insurance!

May bite me the next time but never anything but good results with USPS!
