I picked up some snow camo this year. It's looking like we may not have anymore snow this season around here. Now that the trees are bare and a lot of sky showing through, I am wondering if snow camo might work in a tree. Over cast or clear skies, it's pretty lite when looking up from the ground. Particularly looking from back in the woods to the trees near a field or in a fence row. What experiences and opinions do you folks have? wpab

wpaben, My belief is snow camo would work on most any day. Minimal movement would be key as it always is, but wearing snow camo while ground hunting or in a tree stand should not be a detriment to your bowhunt. Just my opinion. Stay Safe/Shoot Straight. MT

Makes sense to me!

And depending on the pattern, it may not even be a problem right down on the ground. As long as it doesn’t translate into a man-shaped blob at a bit of a distance... If it does, it probably doesn’t matter whether it’s a Dark man shaped blob or a Light man shaped blob. You’re still busted.

Actually, you may want to use blaze orange if the open sky is your background. This is how a deer see's it.

But to answer the question...YES, snow camo will work in a tree.

C'mon over. We still have some of the 41" that fell in 24 hours left to play in.

deer can't pick you out wearing white camo, done it many times in the fall.

"deer can't pick you out wearing white camo, done it many times in the fall. "

Deer can pick you out if you move, regardless of what you're wearing. The ultimate concealment is stillness.

The most beneficial think about wearing all white camo when ground hunting is you can move a little bit and get away it.I go all white.Bow,quiver, arrows, fletchings everything.I got special gear for that.I don't need a ground blind, makeshift blind or anything else. You become the blind. We get a lot of snow most years. So I figured some things out.

In a tree not so sure.Skyline worked though years back.I would probably put a branch overlay effect on the all white underneath.Thats kinda what Skyline looked like anyway.White sweats, white sweatshirt, white facemask, white stocking cap.And paint on branch overlays for a tree setup late season.

I like pure white for groundhunting. No branch effect or anything like that.Easier to spot if you move quite frankly if your not all white and you move. The dark colors stand out.Your like a mirage in all white

I made my own facemask by sewing on white fabric over a camo facemask.Everything else was Goodwill stuff or Salvation Army.Cheap and effective

Skyline camo is great in the trees, the first time I used it my buddy came looking for me for help and walked right bye me until I talked to him.

They're used to be a camo called Skyline. Same principle as you're talking about. I guess if you're high enough and the tree diameter is small enough and the sky is light enough, you'll look like the sky.

Did you ever wonder why many wading birds that feed on fish are white? Hmmm........

And notice that they haven't evolved with more of a "Tree Bark"/"blob" type camo feathering.

I have had deer, stand and stare at me without spooking when I wore white when there was no snow. They seemed mesmerized by it and did not run. This has happened more than once.

It would be easy to test what type of camo or colors blend in and work best in the woods you hunt. Even though deer do see some colors by taking pictures in black and white ( like monkeyballs picture ) it should give you some idea of how the camos and different colors are seen by deer.
