Anyone using the Nifty Nocker from Raptor Archery

Yes. Just finished doing self nocks on a dozen bamboo shafts. Ted has a short video on his website showing how to use it. Definitely do a few practice nocks first but it's pretty easy once you get the hang of it. It'll work on 5/16", 11/32", or 23/64". May even work on 3/8" war arrows.

I have 2 sets. Been using them for a few years now. I use them on the point end also for mounting stone points

For those that don't know what they look like.

I like to foot them for a couple reasons, strengthen the nock and looks. The arrow slips into the collet and you tighten it down and then put the square housing into a vice so the arrow hangs down. Then you use the round flexable file and cut the groove into the end of the arrow. I like to foot the arrow so I file the long groove and then glue a piece of wood, shown in the above photo, into the cut. After that dries then I turn the arrow and cut the short groove into the nock end. I then just use a small round file to clean up the cut and file down the arrow shaft a bit.

Jon, those are some VERY nice looking arrows. Would love to kill something with stone.

I could do a set-up like that on my milling machine... It actually has appeal. I have so many wood shafts the cost of the other bits is starting to hurt.

Very nice, thanks for the info, I think I will order one.

Wait, what Jon ... wood? Not horn ... ?

That's a nifty little jig. I started doing that style nock after reading about it in TBBI. I like to leave one side of the insert high and the other flush. It gives my finger something to feel, similar to a mercury nock. Maybe I can post a pic here later. John

Yeah George, I'm 78 and seen a few nice ones too, my Nifty Nocker is on the way, just something to play with.

Who can say "no" to playing with a nifty nocker set.

From: JusPassin

Wellllll, I have one and used to use it a bit, but then came up with a jig to use on my table saw. Makes perfect cuts every time so the Nifty sits on the shelf.
