setting up a new takedown longbow,

its 62" 41#@27"

shelf is cut to center, and have a 1/16" thick leather side plate, so 0.0625 for centershot?

i draw just a hair shy of 27 so lets say 40#

shoots full length (30.25") cx heritage 600s with 175gn up front very well.

want to make a 30" bop woodie for it.

would like to use 145gn heads. but have 125 and 160 to play with also.

im thinking 45-50# shafts, am i on the right track?

thanks brothers.

i can go longer than 30" if need be.

i just dont want to end up with an arrow thats too short after tuning.

(both for sight picture and broadhead use)

Look at the bright side… If you get the wrong spine wood arrows, it’s not like you’re going to be stuck with them forever!

And spine just isn’t all that critical unless you are shooting bare-shaft, broadheads, or serious competitions.

Also, rather than cutting your arrow shorter to make it act stiffer, you can build out the sideplate to reduce the bow’s dynamic spine requirement to match what the arrow can provide.

I don’t know why anyone would discourage people from bare-shafting, except that it IS pretty much a colossal waste of time if you can’t group worth a damn to begin with. But if you shoot well enough to detect a difference in where you group with FP vs BH, you shouldn’t have any problems....

With wood I would try to stay with a BOP one inch longer then your draw length.

agreed...i bareshaft everything :) even woodies.

and they will be shooting broadheads, as this is the bow i plan on hunting with next season.

but the last set of woodies i made ended up too short to be able to use broadheads.

For hunting I would stick to the carbons. Why fix what is not broken?

“ the last set of woodies i made ended up too short to be able to use broadheads.”

Question is, what spine did you have last time?

And not-for-nothin’....

You can add 3/4” back on if you foot your woodies with 1.5”-2.0” of aluminum with a standard RPS insert, or if you need more than that, you can try some of Jim’s Reparrows...
