Let's see some pointy thingy's. Could be stone, bone, steel, etc. Could be a arrowhead, knife, hawk, etc. The only stipulation is YOU had to make it in 2021.

Hers a rootbeer head with some crummy notching. Man, am I out of practice. John

That looks like it would get the job done. Very Nice John.

Starting to take shape Brian. Good idea wearing a glove on your left hand, and right hand if you can.Lots of finger cuts making stone points. Stoner you do nice work working with stone. Their is an art to it.

From: Bjrogg
Date: 04-Jan-21

Dan I’m not sure what it is. I think it’s treated ridge but not sure. It is working pretty nice. Is pretty slick. Like you said though it doesn’t have the colors that some heated ridge does. It might be some Texas chert. I’m taking my time with it. I’m hoping for a nice big lance point.

Thanks Michael

Robert. I don’t really like using the glove, but my old arthritic thumb has a big say in the matter. You might notice the dark stains on the glove. Yes that’s where I bled through them. Not really sure what possesses a old man to do this stuff.

I received some obsidian from a Waller three days ago. Included were some preforms. This is my work so far. I have a lot to work on of course, but right now the biggest issue is thinning without breaking. These points are rather thick after I broke others. But, its a start and I figure not all that noticeable if displayed or framed.

Finished up this knife. Obsidian spall came from my cousin who collected it from the Buttes. He spalled it sent it to me and I knapped this blade.

I finished up that lance point I started New Year’s Day. I’m pretty happy with it. It might not look terribly sharp, but it really is. I halved it to a Red Osier fore shaft with pine pitch glue and sinew. I will make a main shaft handle that the fore shaft will fit in.

I think it’s going to be the nicest lance I’ve made. Makes me want to stab something.

I’ve been wanting to make something like this for a long time. I wasn’t happy with my earlier attempts. I think I fixed that with these two.

Some of you might remember the white point. It was the first one of 2021 for me I believe.

The black obsidian point may be the last one of 2021.

Thanks Jay. Hard to get good pictures of them. Especially in my messy corner of the shop.

Thanks Jon. Have a great adventure. You need it

No. The white one is Avon (A Burlington variety from Illinois), and the pink one is Crescent from St. Louis.

Here is another Dalton from this year. Made from chert collected near Columbia Missouri.

Those are really nice theolitic71. Did you collect the materials yourself?

Those daltons look like hunters.

Thanks, Bjrogg

I collected the Avon and Crescent. I traded for the Colombia, MO rock at our knap-in at Evergreen Lake near Bloomington, IL. We meet every July.

I think you could easily hammer a whitetail with a smaller Dalton.

Thanks for posting them. That smaller dalton looks like it has a nice sharp edge and would haft to a arrow shaft nicely.

I hope to see some more in 2022

Happy New Year
