My wallet can’t take much more of this

From: hunterbob

Don't like that look at all. I prefer some nice wood look myself.

From: bigdog21

I still after 5 of them, 30 some years.. choose the greybark. the others are nice then my brain thinks hunting tool. and i will not cry as much getting a stander bow scratch, then a cool custom.

Hey Denny, you should take a look at the stop the drop arrow holder. I have been using it for about 9 months and just love it! Works outstanding for a 3 under shooter.. of course it works great on split as well.

I wonder..... carbon limbs, G-10 riser with red accents, wonder how that would shoot?

From: nineworlds9
Date: 01-Jan-21

Itd be sick to do one with an exotic belly, carbon back with skins. Thatd speak my language.

From: HEXX
Date: 01-Jan-21

Hey Denny, what if any, is the speed difference ?

From: ca
Date: 01-Jan-21

Back and belly on limbs? Recurves as well? Thanks

From: Matt Steed Professional Bowhunters Society - Associate Member

I wonder how much difference there is between their standard limb and the carbon ? I know that I have owned numerous bows with bamboo, red elm and actionwood limb core and I can’t see any difference.

The carbon lams are extremely stiff and are hard to torque. It would be difficult to twist a recurve limb with carbon I think. The bow feels extra dead as in less vibration although there isn't much anyway. My chronograph took a dump, but I would guess it is like shooting 3 to 4 more pounds of draw weight in my bow. I usually shoot 54# and the prototype is 50# and shoots same arrows and gap with identical string, brace height and setup.

Nice looking bow!

So, Denny, are your 82# draw weight days a thing of the past, then?

Oh, I remember when we were young and healthy!

Denny, your picture looks like carbon over a wood core instead of clear glass. Is that right ?

You are correct HEXX

From: Hatrick Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 01-Jan-21

I believe that Widow usually uses a strip of uni-weft in the core of their recurve limbs for stability. I would assume that by using carbon to replace the glass it would stiffen the limb enough so that it would eliminate any need for uni-weft?

I'd sure like to try a set on my PCH riser.

Thanks, nothing on their web site yet. If not soon I may need a little talk with Toby.

From: bigdog21

the Iron wood are V models uses bamboo core

From: Jim Compton's Traditional Bowhunters

All my PL's have a lamination of carbon that runs tip to tip.

From: CMF_3
Date: 01-Jan-21

I would think they would be an improvement judging by my Habu with carbon laminates compared to my Wodows with glass.

From: DennySturgisJr Professional Bowhunters Society - Qualified Member
Date: 01-Jan-21

Hamrick, you are right on! Jim, that is a different type of carbon lamination in the core of the PL's. Hope Toby trys out a longbow with this type.

Got me thinking in the 90s widow made a nice black limb PTF with black riser and thin red red glass lines and red tips think the Diamond model, best pic I could find.

From: Jim Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 02-Jan-21

Denny this is what Toby said when I asked him about using the carbon backing on a PL. “ I really don’t think there would be much advantage”

From: newell38 Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 02-Jan-21

A longbow usually has a thicker limb core so other than maybe a few fps added to the bows overall speed, the torsional stability would be minimal on an already stable limb. The advantage comes with adding it to the recurve limbs by adding torsional stability making it more resistant to torque and enabling the limb to maybe become a little narrower if they chose to go that route.

Well said Justin! Happy New Years.

Beauty is in the eye, or brain, of the beholder. I always preferred a flat rattle can camo finish much to Toby's chagrin. :)

From: George D. Stout
Date: 02-Jan-21

I was doubtful that was Denny's bow, since it is usually painted over. :)

From: HEXX
Date: 03-Jan-21

Toby posted the new limbs on Black Widow fan club ( Facebook ) He said " abut 5 FPS faster with less vibration and noise. " We will have to wait for price difference.

From: HEXX
Date: 03-Jan-21

Went back to Facebook, price would be $ 100. over x model price. For looks maybe skins would stick to the carbon. Now we are talking Big Bucks.

From: newell38 Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 03-Jan-21

Why would you puts skins over the carbon? You may as well just get veneers under clear. The added weight of the skins and glue would nullify or come close to nullifying the performance gain (fps) from the carbon backing.....not to mention the $350 extra dollars you’ll be paying for the skins and the carbon for essentially the same performing bow as the x?

From: HEXX
Date: 03-Jan-21

Good point !

From: HEXX
Date: 03-Jan-21

Toby says they are in the process of making one with skins and we will see what happens.

From: CMF_3
Date: 03-Jan-21

They will sell like hotcakes price be darned.

From: HEXX
Date: 04-Jan-21

One option would be a black and white ebony riser to go with the limbs. That would be an additional $ 100. bucks for a KBX. ( only dreaming of course ).

I went ahead and bit the bullet. Ordered my limbs this morning

Looks like the PLX is now offered with carbon limbs (BW website). Does anyone have a picture of a PL with carbon limbs?

From: Follower
Date: 12-Jan-21

Denny - or anyone who has actually shot these limbs - how significant is the reduction in noise? This to me seems like the greatest advantage if it is significant. If you had two identical bows side by side - one with carbon limbs and the other with wood and glass - is there a noticeable differenced in noise?
