I would like to give away a White Oak plains style native American bow in the spirit of Xmas for a youngster.. The bow is a bend through handle 48 inch that is 30 lbs at 25 inch draw with a 4 inch brace. Hemp wrapped grip with an arrow shelf for easier shooting for a youngster. Here is pics. Good idea ,or not? Need your opinions. I will send a blank arrow marked for 23 inches of draw max.

I think that’s an awesome idea!
Are you concerned about liability, somehow…??

I feel sure of the bow at 25 inch draw, and I have never given one away that has failed GF, and that is why I will mark it for 23 inches of draw as a safety measure, I wouldn't want a happy moment turning to a sad moment for any one's child. Liability is always a concern.

Would it not be too difficult for a young one to shoot off the hand? Idea is great , just thinking of the frustration of not shooing it right will discourage.

I think it’s a great idea Bassman.
I would probably want to give the new owner some instructions on how to care for and do’s & don’t s for selfbows
Like not stringing backward or leaving braced . Stuff like that. We take it for granted, but a lot of people don’t know or understand how important they are.

The bow has a cut in arrow rest, and you are right, and I always cut them in for youngsters. It is more difficult to shoot with out a rest even for me.Though you can't see it in the pics. the arrow rest is one quarter deep with the add on.

Your right Brian ,and I planned on giving them all the do's and don'ts with instructions inside the box, and a blank shaft marked for maximum draw with a safety valve of 2 inches.. Sorry that reply above on the arrow rest was to Peter not Jim.

This bow is made from a stave, and not a board bow, and requires no backing, and white Oak is tough wood with inter locking grain.

Ok then I have made up my mind. I WILL HAVE A GIVE AWAY FOR THIS BOW. All the names above will be added to the list except mine, and any one else who wants to enter in the next 24 hours. Just say I'm in. I will pick the winner the day after tomorrow. Get your mailing address, and send the bow out to you. Thanks for your replies.

I’m in Bassman. My nieces son would love that bow. Ive given bows away also. And always with the warning that they are not toys and need adult supervision. Even though none of us probably had supervision when we were kids :^)

Great and generous idea. I am making a set of arrows for my nephew that is 3 but has shown an intense interest. My wife got him a little toy bow for Xmass that came with one arrow so I'm making him a dozen rubber tipped flu flus to grow with. A bow like that would be a perfect next step. Consider me in for him if this is that sort of giveaway.
