Having trouble posting pics but I took in on partial trade a very nice vintage western hatchett/knife set with original sheath set never been touched by a grinder!

As stated, hard to say without pic but I’d hang on to it. I’ve been looking for one for years and haven’t comes across any. Knifeguy will have info if he chimes in.

Bret, I sent you a message.

Your set is from the 1970’s or early 80’s I believe. Earlier versions had stacked leather grips and a different sheath system. I n good used condition I’d say it’s worth $100 to $130. That’s a nice set. I have 2 of the older ones and my Grandson has the “Black Beauty” version. Hang on to it, they are hard to come by. Lance

I had the set with stacked leather washers. The thin bladed hatchet is great for breaking down carcasses. Unfortunately I lost the knife somewhere between field dressing a deer and packing it out. I retraced my steps several times but no luck. I sure would like to replace the knife. The hatchet is still in use. >>>>-----> Ken

Personally other than as an addition to a collection I don't care for that hatchet at all.

I've seen more than one of them chip while being used to break down game animals. Most generally when working through the rib cage or similar. They work fine for splitting small kindling etc..

They do have some historical value but if you actually use it be careful with it.

The knife on the other hand had a good tool in my experience.

Had the stacked leather handle hatchet years ago. Never chipped or broke it but did lose it. Course I never broke down anything bigger than a cow elk so that might not be a fare test. I always thought it was an excellent tool.

The Etsy price has no beaing on the average live person. Check the completed sales on Ebay for market averages...not what someone expects to sell it for.

Throw out the high and low ones and average the rest. You may need to take a space out of the attached link to get it to work.

There are 2 different configurations of that set.

One set has an actual hatchet with a full sized hatchet head. Similar to the old stacked handle Estwings and other hatchet. The other is the set shown. That set has a very thin blade for a head. That's the model that I have seen chip.

Yours may not. But it also may.just Just adding a word of caution to those who are going to use them.

And remember that just because there a 8 or so on eBay, that is still not that many if you consider that there are 50 US States and eBay is global! Like I said, hang on to it! Lance

Nice set was popular in the day. I always wanted the set but only had the knife. Wish I still had not traded it years ago.
