This should be a very quick question and probably only need one person to answer it, but would you say this is a 5 inch or 5 1/2 inch feather?
I just received a bag of these as part of a trade, and I believe they are a Gateway relatively low-profile parabolic. Just thinking I would like to add some white for cock feathers but I want to match them as exactly as I can

I’m going to guess 5 1/2, and so far I haven’t been able to find any anywhere…

Get the 5 inch cock feathers. If the hens are a bit long you can snip off a bit of the lead edges to match.

1/4" wouldn't matter to me. Curious as to why it does you?

I'd call them 5 1/2. The point on the first one extends past the start of the ruler, and the second would register longer if it were straightened. In the pix they're closer to 5 3/8 in my eyes, but close enough.

Well, I guess to the extent that it does “matter” I would bet that the price is the same and I am buying them for this one specific application, so why not get it right?
Honestly, I am more concerned about the overall profile than I am about the length itself. But if all else fails I suppose I can just shape of filament on my burner and make them all exactly alike regardless…
Whaddya think - 2 brown/1 white over a flo orange cap with either a white or an orange nock?

How about two white and one brown. Brown is pretty hard to see in flight or on the forest floor.

At least you looked. I bought some green barred I could have sworn were supposed to be 5”. Well I used them, one white 2 green. I used my JoJan so I made 6 without noticing until I went to add a dab of glue on lead edge of feathers. So I took the other 12 and rechopped them to 5”. Mixed in my quiver I don’t notice it and neither do the other guys.

“How about two white and one brown.”
That’s a fine alternative, but I have a lot more of these bronzes than I think I could ever get through 1 at a time, so I'm thinking about a white or flo orange wrap/cap; I have put together 2 bronze and an orange before, and they were gorgeous.

2 bronze looks nice with a lot of different colors in my opinion. White, ornange as you mentioned, yellow, green just as some examples.

If you have a crapload of them, just use them and dab glue a small maribou (fly tying item) feather behind them for vision. It's amazing how easily you will see a 3/8" piece of soft white or pink, etc., feather in flight and it won't affect your trajectory much, if at all.

Not a bad thought, George, although I think I will have to figure out how to do a bright orange cap dip to go with these....
Maybe Flo Orange with no cock/white nock....
