Aaaaannnd I’ve already been derailed in my search for a 50s style recurve. The more I thought, the more I realized I would likely rather have a hybrid longbow built with accuracy as the #1 priority. Have been talking with Jaco about a new, 2 piece Timberpoint longbow — likely a double carbon Icarus with either Jaco’s bolt or socket takedown system. Possibly in 64”, though we’ve been talking about a 62” Icarus with a slightly shorter riser for hunting (I draw 29”). Would love to see pics and hear anyone’s thoughts on these bows as I work through the details with Jaco.

I to like the looks of Jaco’s bows , some time back he did a remake of the 21st century bow , I like. But I keep going back to my Toelke long bows. And Dans 50s style recurve are hard to beat.

I owned an Odessey III for a spell. 68" 43#. Heirloom quality workmanship with no flaws and it was a shooter. Quiet and decent speed. Riser mass was exceptional and it was dead in rhe hand. Id gladly own another Jaco bow. Maybe next time a Kraken 2pc.

If you are still a bit in the looking mode, take a close look at the Impala Supreme and Impala Supreme Express from Javaman. I recently picked up a two piece (Greg uses the bow bolt system)Impala Supreme. With the bow bolt required micarta in the riser, my 66" bow weighs 40 ounces. Dead quiet. Shoots a 9.5 grain per pound arrow at just under 180fps.

I owned an Icarus and it was a real nice bow and a good shooter. Pretty quick too. But I’d say as a hunting bow I’d probably go a different direction. The carbon in the limbs doesn’t make for a real quiet bow. As for the Javaman impala I’ve never shot it and not sure if there is carbon in the limbs so I can’t speak on it. One of the quietest bows I’ve ever owned was one of Gregg’s Elkharts. He makes a great bow. If I can be bought as just a glass bow I’d bet it would be quiet. The Toelke’s are making a heavy riser RD longbow now and I bet it’s a good one.

I have a 66" Icarus that was purchased from the Wall classified. Don't know what it weights but it is the heaviest hybrid longbow that I have owned...and I've had a lot of them over the years. Shoots great and is dead in the hand.

You might look at the Fox Archery Tripple Crown longbow as well.He also offers the Royal Crown that would be similar to the Icarus
The 3 bows listed in this thread are similar in many ways. The Timberpoint,Javaman Impala and the Fox Triple Crown.Primarily designed to appeal as 3-D tournament style bows. But could certainly be used as a hunting bow.

Thanks, All! Appreciate the input. I’ve had good luck quieting down carbon limb bows before so I feel good about that. Rabbit man: great looking bow! Would love to see more pics if you have them. Am starting to lean toward going for a 62” Icarus. Seems like there is PLENTY of weight in the standard Icarus riser, and Jaco said he’d cut 2” from from riser length to make the bow 62”, which may make the bow more maneuverable and just a bit lighter.

I would consider a Javaman Impala Express. A little more R/D than the standard Javaman Impala and from what I read and a little more speed. It is not on the Javaman website but you can see it on the Facebook page.

Thanks, all! The Javaman bows definitely look very special. I may have to get a Falcon or Assyrian at some point.
Put in my order with Jaco today. Went with a 62” Icarus, 52#@29”, double carbon limbs, and the socket takedown system. Very excited to see how the shortened Icarus will turn out — Jaco said he’ll shorten the riser slightly so it doesn’t lose any smoothness. Going to let Jaco choose the riser woods. Whatever he has in stock that will look good with the black limbs.
