I have one and love it! two sets of limb, one recurve and one longbow! One set is in 50#s and the other in 55#s! I have two blacktails that I've set aside for awhile until the new bow craz wears off! Knock if it you wish, but I am keeping mine!

Very interesting that the weight gain from 29"-30" is only 2.9lbs.. But it's 3.2 from 28"-29" You should draw the bow to 31 and 32"( if you want to, I would have to) just to see how it compares. Could be that curve starts to flatten out at 29". That would answer the question about how it does at long draw lengths.

Pretty impressive. That is only 7.27 grains per pound. I would love to see the numbers with a 500 grain arrow. Just because it is what I shoot the most, even with a little lighter draw weight. >>>>-----> Ken

Understood. It would still be interesting.

Stix, good info and thanks for sharing. I own a Galaxy Ember (same as the Black Hunter) in a recurve with 55# limbs. I shoot 535 grains. I never chrono'ed it but it's fast enough for me :)

I really like the looks of the maroon riser, enjoy!

191 fps at 7.3 gpp/28" can be extrapolate in the 165 fps range for 10 gpp/28" ( give or take 2 fps). speedwise for a recurve, it is slow. Anyway speed doesn't matter. Enjoy the new bow

You can find American made "black hunter" bows. Actually made by Kirk Lavender at Big foot bows. Yes they are MUCH more expensive than the Chinese stuff. But that G10 frame with accurate craftsmanship and custom grip and limb design development has a cost They also give 165 fps but for 13 gpp. Hey! We all know that speed doesn't matter and that China economy need American support :)

I thought buying a Black Hunter was because of the price, you get a great bow and you save a lot.

If money wasn't an object people would buy American so for me it all boils down to how much money do you have to spend.

On a fixed income or have a family to support and don't have a high paying job you buy what you can afford and want a good product.

True Whittler.

Unfortunately the way our tax system is set up, Foreign made bows aren't subject to the 11% Pittman-Robertson tax, which goes to support wildlife programs in this country, which all U.S. builders must pay. Not the only reason, but that contributes to foreign made suppliers ability to price their bows lower than American made.

Although this has nothing to do with the good information that came from this post, are you guys sure that the manufacturer or importer of this product ISN'T paying the 11% Pittman/Robertson tax or is that just conjecture? I certainly don't know enough about their business to say one way or the other.

That's dang interesting

The bow gains 5.6lbs from 26-28". And then 6lbs. from 28-30". Safe to say that bow is perfectly capable of drawing pretty dang smooth to 30".

And not bad at all to 31".

OK, somebody post some pictures of a Kirk Lavender built Black Hunter. I would want to see it. I am the happy owner of two Galaxy Ember bows with longbow limbs and a third set of heavier limbs if needed. After years of owning at least 80 different bows--many customs--I have found that my Galaxies have become my go-to bows. I hadn't intended that but they just won that spot. I initially bought one with light limbs to do Jim Casto's target panic program and when it came I could not have been happier. Now, that maroon riser sure is an eye catcher. LOL

David the maroon riser bow hit 188 fps at 10 gpp/28" that s translate 3 fps slower than the 55 #191 fps 400 gr arrow black hunter performance but at 40 pounds.

In Europe we have a specie of mountain ram , muflon , living at high elevation and very elusive as wolf are hard on the herds. Getting an old ram with a trad bow is more than seldom. I shot the one on the left at 19 yards while walking hard and the one on the right at 37 yards standing, few hours apart with that maroon bow. You guess kirk's bow can cure target panic too.

Ha! I suppose so if I had the funds to put into one. I have spent lots of money on bows over the years but at 76 and on a more careful budget I was delighted that I could get such a nice bow as my Galaxy for the excellent price. I sure like the looks of those Lavender bows you posted. And I must say those are two fine trophies and no doubt hard won. Congratulations!

Has anyone compared the longbow vs recurve limbs on a draw board?
