Shooting a r/d longbow, recurve grip, , 37#’s at 28”, 600 spine 30” arrows with 125 point weight, total weight 385 grains. Flight is good, bare and fletched group together down the line. Three under with 7/8” nock point. Tried brace height ranging from 7-8”. 12 strand BCY string with padded loops and doubled served. Yarn silencers at the 1/4 mark from each limb tip.

The best way I can describe the noise is that it is like a dull “thud”. Feels like a thud too. I don’t think it is the bow, as I have had this with two other r/d bows, just not as noticeable. I don’t get this with numerous recurves I have shot. I think it is something I’m doing. Release???

Thud is a good sound that's what you want

describing a sound is so hard to do well.

did changing the brace height affect it at all?

Hi Toby, Hard to say. All bows leave some sort of 'thud'.

The first thing I do (doesn't mean it's correct) is find the sweet spot in the brace hight by sound. Then silencers and then tune.

You might want to move one silencer to a 1/3 (leave the other at 1/4). The odd distance helps with oscillation.

When it comes to release, we'd need a video. I'd lead with the bow over you. What kind of string are you shooting?

Im sorry I see the arrow weight now

Have you tried moving the string silencers around? Arbitrary measurements are well....arbitrary.

If the doin isn't the bow what else would you surmise it would be?

You say your arrows are grouping but how are the arrows flying down range. Are there any marks on the strike plate or rest. Have ou tried a 700 spine. Good luck.

Fuzzy, brace height doesn’t make much difference, but I will run it through again at different distances. Todd, I think you hit on something. I put the silencers in right away and should have shot the bare string first. I will also move the silencers to different positions, as you and fdp suggested.

Seems like a stiff arrow for that bow. I shoot about the same with a 700 spine from a fast recurve. That arrow is pretty light as well.

Whistler, Arrow flight looks good, both fletched and bare. Don’t notice any marks, but will keep an eye out for that.

.700 spine is often recommended for set ups similar to mine. But, for some reason I have never been able to get a tune with arrows spined on the light side, always showed very weak. I tried an 1816 aluminum just to check and it showed very weak.

Brian

Very slick glove.

Good suggestion on the limb savers.

Instead of placing the silencers at 1/3 and 1/4, try 1/6 and 1/10. It seems counterintuitive to have them out so far, but that’s were I put mine and it works great. Learned it here on the wall.

If you are gripping it tight, try holding a parakeet. If you are holding loose, get firm. If you are shooting well, resist all change.

I get the same sound from my R/D LB. But it seems to vary with the type arrows I am shooting. Sounds crazy but I hear more with carbons, a little less with aluminums and hardly If any with woods. Reason I picked woods for hunting. I use a BCY X string with catwiskers , one small set. I keep my arrows at 10-12 gpp even the carbons.

My D/R bows really like silencers at 1/4 of NTN. 63-66# bows.
