Due to lower back issues stringing a bow has become difficult at best. I have The basic concept for building a bench mounted mechanical bow stringer, I just thought I would check with you all here. There's some talents individuals on this site so if anyone has built or purchased one please share. Thanks Dave

Dave, if you have space on a wall or a door frame, etc., you can make a good one from two spools. One mounts about a foot off the floor for the lower curve. The second mounts on a pivot arm to accommodate for different length bows and mounts about two feet above the bottom one...more or less. You than put the bottom curve on the bottom roller, and swing the pivot arm until the upper roller sets into the pivot point/grip area.

The stringer George is talking about used to be commonplace on archery ranges before compounds took over. The ones I saw were mounted on the side of bow hanging racks. Nice safe way to string a bow.

Here is a cheesy drawing. The rollers I have seen are for boat trailers. The upper roller can be fixed but was most often mount on a 6-8" piece of 1/4" steel so it could pivot. One end bolted loose enough to pivot, and the other having the roller for adjustment.

I mounted one like George and others mentioned on a post in the back yard. You still have to pull the upper tip back by hand but you can stand erect and it is so much easier. It is safe too, no body parts in the way the bow would spring back. You will like it. >>>>------> Ken

Craig that video was awesome. The gentleman came up with a great solution. I worked in the field of developmental disabilities and perhaps the most rewarding thing was to do some rehab- engineering that allowed individuals with significant motor skill involvement to complete tasks.

Check out you tube video. Type in JOAD bow stringer. I believe that will give an idea of how to make your own bow stringer.

Horizontal works as well but harder to keep body parts clear. Never straddle a bow like in the video. If string, bow,or peg on the stringer breaks or slips off you will be struck with the amount of pulling pressure exerted. Be safe stay well. >>>>------> Ken
