Most of those that I've seen are leather. Can make them easily enough and affix with barge cement. Norm Kuehn, a Bear collector and member on this site (can't remember his handle) had some reproductions a while back that he was selling for $5 a pair.

Monte Dunaway makes replacement die cut latch leathers. They are excellent.

I just cut my own out of leather with a pair of Craftool Sure-Grip Shears.
