How lucky am I to own 2 of the above??? The T-bird (‘67) and a Hunter (‘90).
The Hunter may be a little plain to some, but she was my first... And honestly - at 62” and about #54 off of my fingers - I have never had a truly compelling reason to buy anything else since. They’re just fun.

62" Wing Thunderbird. The Hunter I had I didn't care for it was smooth but the sight window didn't work for me. I've had Kodiak Hunters and Super Kodiaks and the are just okay. Never had a straight Kodiak.

i shoot my H-Hunters better than my T-bird. The T-bird is a project bow, trying to get the grip to point where I’m looking. The Hunters already do...

I was shooting my 62" bowling ball Thunderbird and my 1962 Howatt Hunter last week...both were the same draw...51#, so used the same arrows.
The TBird is just like a Cadillac...heavy to carry but steady due to the weight and plunks them right in....very quick and stable. It had a Fury string on it so quiet as well. I have a 52" but don't like it as much.
The knife edge Hunter was like a part of my arm...and quick as well. Very smooth on the draw, like the Thunderbird.
The Howatt would be my pick...but that T-Bird is not far off the mark.
3rd would be my 1957 Kodiak Special that's 62" and 52#. It's a beautiful bow to shoot. And to look at so it gets a picture!

I'd take the Kodiak, probably replace the early 90's "camo" one I had. But, the more I keep hearing about the Hunter it's looking like I will have to have one soon...which one and/or year is considered the "most desirable"????

So now you're pi#%ed off Ernie Root and Ben Pearson by keeping them fron the equation. Not to mention Earl Hoyt, Jr. and sundry other bowyers/manufacturers of the day. Watch out for that bolt of lightning from the archery heavens. ;)

What pdiddly said...and what GDS said. That's why I don't make those hard choices. If I could only have one, though...say, to fight zombies with, I'd take the 62" T-bird. If I ran out of arrows, I couldnt bring myself to whack anything in the head with a 1962 Hunter, and the Kodiaks don't have enough oomph, but one good swing of that massive phenolic riser could take down a monster....and never worry about a coin coming loose.

I have a hunter and a kodiak and both have their merits and faults. One day i prefer one and the next the other. I lean towards the Hunter because I was the first bow i bought, but if it snapped in half the next time i drew it, i would buy the first reasonable priced Hunter or Kodiak in the same weight and not worry about it or think i was missing out. I have only had one wing and didn't love it, but honestly can't remember the model

The Hunter, but only because I prefer its riser weight, looks, performance, craftsmanship, and history. Other than that, it's a close contest, heheh. And Harold Groves's ghost wants a piece of the original poster, as well!

I think the Thunderbird was 52" and 62" until AMF took over ownership, then it becames a 54" and 62". The phenolic material went away and gave way to Wingwood...a resing impregnated wood. Feel free to correct me though, I'm not an expert on Wing.

Shoot fire, that's simple as it gets. 1962 Kodiak, 'cause with its Brazilian rosewood riser, medium wrist, and limbs extended well into the riser, it would be the best looking one of all of'em all.
The Damon Howatt would be a surprisingly fast and comfortable bow by my experience as I acquired one once but gave it to my 15 year old brother-in-law to use. Always thought for a hunting bow bow it was some kind of super smooth shooter. Only other short bow I have owned which surprised me more was a 52-inch AMF Red Wing Hunter. It flat out spits them out like lightning.
