Thanks for story . I rememeber my first bow killed deer also . A 3pt , walking right to left at 14 yards , oct 7th , 1976 .45 lbs bear super mag , 2217 Jim Dougherty arrows with a 6 blade wasp broadhead . I was on the ground , tucked into a blowdown , and wasn’t even thinking about a deer wandering by . But we all know how that works . The shot was a tad high but still got both lungs . Mikado , Michigan . Yeah , Thanks

I hunted a hillside from a tree stand for the last three hours of daylight a few times and observed that the deer were traveling 'over there'. The next hunt, I made a makeshift ground blind just downwind of 'over there'. Shortly before quitting time a spikehorn walked into view, stopped, and put his head down. I made the 15 yard shot and took my first buck. Brought him home on the trunk of my Dad’s 1967 Dodge Dart. I always wondered why he stopped right there, like a gift. I can still see him. Thanks.

Sept. 30, 1964, Knapp Township, Jackson Co., Wisconsin, 45# Bear Kodiak Magnum bow, wooden arrows with 4-blade Bear Razorhead broadheqds. Almost 56 years ago, still remember it well,...could walk right to the exact spot in the woods,...have been back there a number of times,...small 8-point but a trophy to me!

October 28, 1983. Almost every evening Id walk up an old railroad bed and cut into a stand of oaks that bordered Buffalo Creek. Behind me was a old stone fence, that was falling down in places and this is where the deer would cross in from a thick whitethorn swamp. It was a full moon week and I can remember deer moving everywhere in the thickets. I stood on a red oak limb about as thick as my leg. Old faded blue jeans, a wool cpo jacket that was green with stripes and a camo bucket hat was my attire. I carried a 54" Browning Backpacker 50lbs and 3 blade Wasp broadheads. After a hlf hour a large bodied 6 point offered me a shot. I was so excited. I became a archer that evening!

my first was actually a rifle kill, but it is still a very fond memory. I was 12 at the time and we were a good way back in off the beaten path on dead horse mt. My dad was up burnt shanty mt, I had crossed the creek and went up the side of dead horse.

I killed a deer every year after that, my first bow kill was when I was 16, farmland in SE PA. But it just doesn't have the same fond memory as my first. Plus I've always preferred hunting the mts.

Oct 20 1973, I was perched on an oak plank that had been placed across the limbs of a huge old oak tree in the corner of our 10 acre woods. I was able to put a cedar arrow tipped with a 3 bladed Arrow-mate broadhead, from my Wing Chaparral recurve, through the lungs of a button buck. Two other best first deer for me, was taking my little brother, who is 15 years younger, to Michigan for a weekend hunt in Oct 1976, he was 13 years old. We had made a nice ground blind for him and he slipped an arrow from his Bear Polar II compound through the lungs of a nice 2x2 buck. [He has been shooting recurves and longbows only since he was 15.] My other great first, was watching my 18 year old son kill his first deer, a big doe, with my brothers Big Horn recurve that he want to use for the hunt. We've been blessed as a family to enjoy many bow hunts together over the years.

My first was with a 12 gauge shotgun using rifle slugs. It was on the Taylor estate close to Tionesta Pa.. It was my first deer hunt with my dad and the deer was a little 7 point. I weighed about 80 pounds and the deer was bigger than me.lol

My first was a forkhorn with a 303 british but my first bow kill was Dec 2 1967 in Necedah National Wildlife refuge in Wisconsin. We were the first vehicle in the parking area, snow on the ground so any tracks were fresh, found a spot on a little hill and settled in. At first light I could hear deer running everywhere when all of a sudden one stopped about 15 yards away, my 47# kodiak sent the black panther broad head through the button bucks front shoulder and after two jumps he was down.

I heard a native say the animal will “present” itself when it’s ready if you honor the animals. Sounds about right to me

My first was with a Winchester 30-30. It was an eight point with 19 inch inside spread. My most memorable and my proudest was the first with a bow, A little 3 point. It walked under my stand and stoped to feed. I was using a Onieda Screaming Eagle, 70 lbs. I made the mistake of sitting when I shot. The lower limb hit the stand and jerked the bow downward. The arrow hit the buck in the rear leg and traveled down the leg and stuck in the ground. He ran a semicircle around my tree and stopped broadside at 30 yards and looked back were he had been. I quickly nocked another arrow drew and sent it through both lungs. That was the first of many bow kills. But now I am working on getting my first trad bow kill. I'm betting it will feel just as great. wpab

My first deer was Nov.3rd 1991. But was with a rifle. I used an unusual rifle, most wouldn't consider a Springfield M1A a hunting rifle, but it was for me that morning. My father couldn't take me out, so I skipped school and my older brother took me. He was pushing through a swamp and a doe came out from under a blown down tree. I was taught to always anchor a deer when they're around water and in swamps. And a neck shot did it well at about 80 yards. The next October in Northern Vermont I took a 105lbs doe with a #60 Jerry Hill Wildcat II longbow at 12 yards from a tree stand, hunting in the edge of an apple orchard. Got a quartering away shot, cough part of the liver a lung and left side of the heart.

I been sick over all my photos lost early on in a fire at parents. Lost fishing and hunting pictures some bows and equipment all my first stuff in garage.

Doe was my first followed by a 8pt. The deer I have was in a separate area on wall at my dads.

I can remember the old things but not short term any more myself.

My first deer ( a doe ) was shot in 1971 with a 45# 1969 Bear Green Fox all fiberglass bow and a Bear Razorhead at 10 yards. My first buck was a nine point ( pictured ) shot with a 45# 1963/1964 Black Hawk Warrior recurve and a Bear Razorhead at 15 yards. Lets see some more of them vintage pictures.

Some really cool old pics and stories above fellas, thanks for sharing!

I shot my first deer, a doe, when I was 12 in 1984 with my dad's 7mm. I killed my first buck the next year, an 8 point, when I was 13 with my 7mm.

This is my first buck with a bow (compound) when I was 14 in 1986. I shot this buck at 4 yards on the ground and can still remember every detail of the hunt. My dad wasn't an archery hunter but he supported my desire to bow hunt. I don't know who was more surprised that I killed this buck, me or him LOL. My dad never took pictures of anything but I can remember him saying, "We need a picture of your first deer with a bow." and I'm glad he did!
