I have a BCYX string 18 strand I want to put on a 55# recurve.

Is this enough strands for the draw weight?

That's enough for A 500lb. bow, so yes.

I've been using the 21 strand BCYX that LAS makes and been extremely happy with it.

BCY-X is a small strand diameter thread so many guys go with 18 to 20 strands to get a string they don't need to double serve to get nock fit. And yes, that string would work for a very heavy bow.
