1954 Polar's riser looks alittle different than yours. 1955 and 1956 had double shelfs. 1957 had white limb nocks. Early 1958 had white limb nocks, Late 1958 had red/brown/white limb nock tips. 1959 would have a copper standing bear coin and white limb nocks.

It's just my opinion but I'd say it's a 1958 Bear Polar.

i thought the '56 had a red stripe in the site window.

I believe your Polar is a 1957 bc it has a single shelf. The ‘56 I have now, and the one I use to have, were both dual shelf semi-recurves.

Here's a '56.

All 56's may not have been the same??

My 1956 Polar. They had the double shelf and the red striping in the riser. It's not a 1956 Polar.

I wonder what it is?? LOL

From: buster v davenport

It is a '58. The "sow belly" on the upper limb is more pronounced than that of the '57. bvd

I agree its a 57 or 58...cant tell which from these photos.

Here’s a 1957 Bear Polar add.

From: Nemophilist
Date: 21-May-20

The 1957 and early 1958 Polars are the same and had white limb nocks, the late 1958 Polars had red/brown/white limb nocks like in Clayborn's picture. Like I said above it's a 1958 Polar.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate all the knowledge that you have. Really helps a guy like me. Clay

Nemo, I have a 64 inch 41 lb. Polar with white tips. Always wondered what year it was . Thanks.

I have one just like it. Does anyone know what the brace height should be?

From: Mike E
Date: 21-May-20

Start at 7 1/2- 7 3/4 and go from there shouldn't be too far off.

59. Only year with that color glass. I just gave one to son for Christmas. Fun bow to shoot.

From: Nemophilist
Date: 22-May-20

Trad Rick A 1950 Polar had reddish glass, and 1953 to 1960 Polars all had the red glass. And a 1959 would of had a copper standing bear coin, and white limb nock tips. Not a 1959. It's a late 1958 because of the red/brown/white limb nock tips.

From: Nemophilist

Trad Rick sorry a 1959 Polar had Marron Reddish/White tips ( but no brown in them ), but it had a copper coin. My brain is clear only after a couple cups of coffee. "lol" If you look at Clayborn's picture it looks like there are three colors ( red, then brown, then white ) in the limb tips to me.

The '59 did not have a leather grip. The riser was redesigned with a contrasting center rib instead of a one piece riser. bvd

Well, now that is settled: these mid 50s bows are fun, exciting to shoot. This is a very fine example but there are many still available in the used market, in usable condition, often for reasonable cost. There are very light in the hand and pleasant to carry in forest and field. Later designs had more mass in the riser and felt more stable but less lively. These bows feel alive, snappy.

They feel even more lively than my beloved Howard Hill bows. They are hard to beat for pure pleasure in the shooting. True classics. - lbg

Well said lbg, a very accurate description of why I enjoy my '57 Static Grizzly so much. BTW have fun CLAYBORN.
