Something I been wanting to make for over 10 years and drew it up off a similar one I saw but made a few modifications using corrugated tin for the sides and roof. Now I have to make a door f some sort and Ad some I bolts for a few bag targets to hang and some straw bales which I need to get cause I like straw . Excelsior bales would be ideal and last about 20 years or so if taken care of but very pricey and hard to find . But my 3 girls and I will have lots of enjoyment flinging arrows .I will post pictures when we finally get a chance to do that.

What is the back made of? It looks like it might be a rubber stall mat maybe just hung from the top?

Frank you are correct it is a 4’x6’ 3\4” thick horse stall Matt from Tractor Supply. $44.99 unless you can find a used one but I wanted one for awhile so I bought one and drilled holes through a 2x6 and ran carriage bolts through it then had help picking it up and attaching through pre drilled holes in the 4x4 posts and i put 2 bolts per post to hold it .

Thanks for posting, I've been contemplating something similar for a while. Looks nice - if you can keep the girls from turning it into a playhouse!

That rubber is pricy but its great stuff for a backstop. We bought 5 of the mats in 3/4" for our club outdoor range and we got lucky, they were on sale for 35.00 at Blaines farm and fleet. I bought a 1/2" pc for my home target, I think it was 25.00. It works really nice too.

Now i wanna build one

It is a nice setup. My concern is pulling arrows out of that stall mat due to the way it is mounted. I've found that I have to put my knee against the mat prior to pulling or the mat gets really tight on the arrow when it pulls forward and pinches the back side. I'm sure that you will figure out something.

The Matt is just a back stop is just in case an arrow pass's through or a miss on whatever target/targets you intend to shoot . What I first did on mine was just use carriage bolts on the top so the Matt will move if hit by a missed arrow. I never shot at one "Yet" to see if the energy of the arrow will push the matt back but have read where many folks leave it loose around the sides and bottom. I also have read but haven't seen yet that an arrow shot by a heavy bow can be harder to pull then a lighter bow . I guess its all about how deep the arrow penetrates the backstop Matt. When I get some shooting time in and hit mine I'll respond how hard and how deep they penetrate on mine. Most of my bows are low 40 weight bows and I am hoping not too many ever hit it but I am sure there will be quite a few.

I think it is awful that you would use those 2 cute girls as a backstop...LOL

From: The Whittler

I think the two cuties are for retrieving the arrows when he well you know doesn't hit the target. :-)

Thank you for the kind words about our daughters .We adopted 3 actually but the oldest is somewhat camera shy and was too busy to photo bomb the picture of the target backstop lol. I put the backstop on hold for a few days do to call ins at my work and my wife just had a cataract eye surgery which went fine praise the lord.
