That's a beauty; I'm sure Pdiddly will add it to his data base. It's a 1962 bow; we already have EDV 3483 and EDV 3489 accounted for.

Thanks Kerry! I'm sure P will be along. Do you know what years they used the knife edge? My 1960 does not have it.

I really like the finish. Perfect blend of not too dull, not too glossy. I never would have guessed it was a '62.

Randy, they only made the knife edge risers in 1961 and 1962 as far as we've been able to find. I think they had just promoted some young hotshot designer/bowbuilder named Hatfield around that time, LOL.
It's good to finally see a true classic bow from Minnesota; we're so accustomed to seeing the usual dogs that Frisky posts pictures of.

Speaking of dogs- this bow is nicer looking than my dog of a 95' Howatt Hunter. I actually like the purplehert of my Hunter, but that bow sure shoots like a dog! As good as the Diablo is, neither this bow or my Hunter is in the same league as my Bear TD. They both are dogs compared to the Bear!

Thanks Kerry! Would that knife edge dating apply to Hi Speeds as well? I have one of those that's a beaut as well. Yes, SOME of us in Minnie have rather discerning tastes. In fact some of us like spicy food and good beer! And because they're somewhat rare and I'm unfamiliar with Drake's and Savages I thought maybe ol Joe was one of us, but after seeing his current love, I've changed my mind! But he probably likes Bush Lite too though!

VERY nice Red Dogs...you can't get much better for looks than the Diablo and Monterey in the early 60's. That bow is just beautiful. The grain on that one piece of rosewood on the very back of the riser (in the last two pictures) is just stunning!!
All the info that was posted by Kerry is correct, except they made the Diablo with the knife edge in 1963 as well. The Hunter, Hi-Speed and Monterey were 1961 and 1962.
I was shooting my '62 Diablo last last month and took this picture...even the blind pig will find the corn sometimes! LOL!

Randy, That bow is a’62 near as I can tell. Great looking bow. Peter, you had to post a picture of my old Diablo just to remind me of what an idiot I was to trade it away!! That is a pretty one as well. Thanks John

The Monterey I had was 62", had a knife edge and definitely was a hunting bow. It had the identical same profile as a Hunter of that year.

A bow can't get any prettier than that! I always loved the rosewood Super D's but that looks even better. To call it "stunning" is hardly appropriate but I don't have a better way to describe it. Wow!

Frisky you didn't raise any hackles with your reply. You are slipping.Ok then I will reply. Not all bows have to come with barn hinges to be pretty, and shoot fast.LOL

By my read, the Monterey was a 62" hunting bow for the short period from 1961-63 and then became a target/field model. The 1960 looked like this, and was 62", but it was marketed in a group with the Catalina and Palomar from 1958 to 1960.
