From: Babysaph
Date: 16-May-20

Yes I sold an old Bob Thompson zipper in the 90's I would like to have back

From: Bassman Professional Bowhunters Society - Qualified Member

No

From: MikeT
Date: 16-May-20

yep, I had a Browning takedown 50# I bought new in the 80`s that I sold cause I thought it was too wimpy. Now it would be my max weight!

From: Brad Lehmann
Date: 16-May-20

Only one. Funny thing about it, I was offered the riser in a trade. I recognized it as my old riser and verified grain patterns in pictures to be certain. I later realized that I had already purchased the limbs several months prior. I knew that they looked a lot like the ones that I had owned but the light just didn't come on. When I checked the serial number on the limbs against the number on the riser, it was a match.

From: TradToTheBone
Date: 16-May-20

Yes,of the 20 or so sold only one do I want back. First year Martin Savannah 50 lbs. would buy a 45lb today.

From: beachbowhunter
Date: 16-May-20

My first Zipper Extreme, also made by Bob Thompson. Still have the custom one he made for me, but that first one was great.

From: David Mitchell
Date: 16-May-20

Well yes, I had a Fedora TD that I sold at Cloverdale one year and after a time wished I had not. The next year the guy was walking around with that bow with a for sale sign on it. I made a fast trip to an ATM machine to get some cash and bought it back. A while later I remembered why I sold it in the first place and sold it again. LOL

From: Wapiti - - M. S. Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 16-May-20

Yes a Gary Sentman strikeforce 62 amo 50 lbs. It had Snakeskin backing was a nice bow

From: selstickbow

YIKES yes, I can't count the bows I've bought back, some more than once.

From: bigdog21

I had a BW LAG. Was in search of a newer greater bow. The grip fit great it my hand and it was paid for. Tried newer bows but not fit as me as well.

From: Scooby-doo
Date: 16-May-20

RER Arroyo, one piece got a little heavy for me. I would love another 54"s and around 47#s. Shawn

From: Wudstix Professional Bowhunters Society - Associate Member

Damon Howatt Hunter 62” - 65#@28 1964/5 traded it for a High Country longbow thought I didn’t need it cause I got a Big River recurve about same specs except 60” AMO. Really wish I had thought that through.

From: Steve P
Date: 16-May-20

Well, I didn't sell it, I threw it in a dumpster. Small toothpick size sliver of glass started lifting on edge of one limb...thought it was toast.

Steve

From: RJH1
Date: 16-May-20

Out of a bunch of bows i have sold the only one I would really like back is a 70s Super K. I sold it cause I bought a Bear takedown and thought I wouldn't use the super K anymore, then I sold the takedown

From: Nemophilist
Date: 16-May-20

Only one I sold that I'd want back is a Bob Morrison Cheyenne Takedwon Recurve I had in the mid-1990s. It's was 60"amo and 60#@28". Real nice shooting bow.

From: reb
Date: 16-May-20

Yes; two Elburgs I sold.

From: Shag
Date: 16-May-20

Just one...Black Widow PLGA. I loved that bow. Sold it to help fund a Kimber 1911...still have the gun. Miss the bow daily. Can’t remember who I sold it to but I’d gladly give them their money back.

From: David McLendon
Date: 16-May-20

I shouldn't have sold the bocote PAX with Mammoth Tusk overlays, it was 54# and I was shooting 83# back then and couldn't see where I'd ever need it.

From: painter
Date: 16-May-20

Yea! A 1991 Fred Asbell Big Horn take down, 60" 70# @ 28..... Of course I'd also need my old shoulders too.

From: Bucknut
Date: 16-May-20

Yes, I had a Striker Fastback that I shot very very well. I had several issues with it. Actually they had it more than I did the first year. I sent it in to get refinished and wasn't happy with the work. It was at a time when the were super busy and the quality was very sub par. I was pissed and sold it out of spite. In hind site I probably should have kept it and refinished it myself or sent it to someone else to spray.

From: Roadrunner
Date: 16-May-20

Yep. A Wilderness Pinnacle longbow. 64"and 49@28. Sold it after surgery but a year or so later I could handle that weight again. Also sold a Moosejaw for same reason.

From: babysaph Professional Bowhunters Society - Qualified Member

From: Flyman

From: nineworlds9
Date: 16-May-20

Like someone else said, at some point just about every one Ive sold. Luckily though my current stable is about the best its ever been.

As far as random bows I miss a lot, interestingly this one Lost Creek Envy that Chad Francis built me some years ago. It had a Texas ebony riser and bocote limbs. That damn bow shot as good as anything top shelf out there. It had some build flaws and Chad grew a bit of a negative reputation later on but I tell you with that bow I couldnt miss abd it was damn quiet. It was only 600 new too so a relative bargain. Id buy it back for sure.

From: Desperado

Where is my Howett Super Diablo .. 60#? I traded it in for a Hoyt compound.....when I was young and dumb....really dumb. Chuck Adams made me do it. Richard

From: Kwikdraw

Yes, 2, a Tall Tines w/ rattler skins, fast, very fast! And a Big Jim takedown Buffalo that I traded for, it was awesome! Oh well, coulda, woulda, shoulda.........!

From: Monte
Date: 16-May-20

A Jack Howard Gamemaster Jet that Jack made for me to match the one he used. I was so amazed at how quiet that bow was without any silencers. And, a Savage Deathmaster that was also an amazing shooter. Just to much poundage for me.

From: Dirtnap
Date: 16-May-20

I've been through a few bows over the last 10 years. Had an older Bear tigercat that I liked really well. Wasn't shooting it too terribly much so I ended up making a great deal to a kid for his first bow. Ran into him last year and he wasn't a kid anymore, I didn't even recognize him at first. Said he still loves shooting that bow. Feel like I made the right choice there but I would probably pay double what I sold it to him just to get it back.

From: Bjrogg
Date: 16-May-20

I made a selfbow for a very special family I donated to raise money for their sons brain tumor expenses. He had a few good years. Passed away last fall. Sure wish I had that bow. It had a lot of meaning in it and made me feel close to him.

From: Codjigger
Date: 17-May-20

Oh...Yes!! Last year I sold a dozen of my bows to a young friend, among them was a zebra Grizzly. I missed that bow so much that I asked him and he was good enough to sell it back to me. The Grizzly has forgiven my transgression and we are friends again. Sandy

From: Babbling Bob Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 17-May-20

Nope not too much.

For sentimental reasons but that only. Traded the best shooting bow ever had which was one of the first ever made Tamerlanes, but don't miss it or any other huge risered target bow of its time. What in the world would I do with another one to have to wax on my rack. Sure couldn't scare the local turkeys with it.

One I almost missed was the '62 K Mag I had at the same time 'cause it was my first bow bought new with after school money. Thought I missed it after the Navy when I could only find the Tamerlane, but later, my best friend and hunting partner in the early to mid sixties told me his little brother had it, liked it, and was using it for that second deer season. Fine by me and just glad someone else was getting enjoyent from it. I had moved on with getting into takedowns, which were the new thing back then.

From: Clydebow
Date: 17-May-20

Only one. I killed my first deer in 1972 a few miles from where live now on a federal hunting area with a Shakespeare Wonderbow. Sometime around 1975, someone stole it from our tent a while a friend and I were deer hunting at FT. Leonard Wood Mo.

From: Ovilla Bill
Date: 17-May-20

I had a Jack Howard Gamemaster Jet, 66", 48@28 that I have always regretted selling. I was always worried about the length. Just cumbersome to deal with. At the time I was shooting 55 to 60 pound bows and the "Jet" felt just to light. Today I would love to have a "Jet" at that weight, as would a lot of you.

From: David McLendon

Jake you could have another one just like it or better in about six weeks. Hard to beat the searvice from Toelke.

From: hunterbob
Date: 17-May-20

Yep a LAG black widow that started it all for me. To much poundage but I would like to have it back again . Yep again I got it back once and let it go again.

From: wonderbowman
Date: 17-May-20

Surprisingly, no. I love bows and the ones I sold din't love me.

From: Geezer
Date: 17-May-20

Yes! A Martin Savannah. That boww extended my effective range at least 10 yards but I don't know why. From a tree at daylight one morning I drew on a walking buck at 35 yards telling myself I would not release of it didn't feel exactly right. It did and I did taking home the longest deer kill I ever made. Now they are way out o byf my price range.

From: Ben
Date: 18-May-20

About 40years ago I sold a Pearson Renegade to a guy at work. The next night he shot a thief breaking into his cabinet shop. Luckily in the leg. The police came out on the report of a guy with an arrow in his leg. Took the bow away from him. I expected for quite awhile to have the police question me about selling it to him.

From: Ghost308

I traded off a Bear Grizzly with a zebra wood riser to a fellow Waller for a Osage self bow I wish I had bac.k

From: Buckshot
Date: 19-May-20

Yes, I had a laminate riser (either Kodiak or Super Kodiak) that I sold due to the poundage at the time, now I could pull it all day long.

From: bfisherman11 Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 19-May-20

Honestly, no. By the time Ive sold a bow I have convinced myself it was time. I do have bows I am not shooting so much that I probably should consider selling but I can't yet.

Bill

From: RymanCat
Date: 19-May-20

Now why would Jim say something like that?

Well 2 reasons he builds whatever he wants or he has to let them go because he is getting older and may have to come down in weight too like the rest of us? LOL

Id say yes several of my Big Jims I sold but then some are now to heavy for me having this big lay off.

probably ok to hunt with but to shoot a lot of targets probably no so I have to work on selling some more they are only sitting on racks in bedroom keeping me company at night. LOL

I always tried to convince myself but I never stopped thinking about them and the beautys they were. I'd say its time for someone else to enjoy them and thats the only way I could deal with it.

Wasn't about the money either although a few bows sold at the time the virus thing started was a big help out for me when wasn;t working. LOL

From: greyghost

From: JimG

A Quinn Stallion. I foolishly sold it. I didn't know how good I really had it. Martin/Nirk Rebel is another one I let slip through my fingers. The Rebel was nothing special but it just fit me perfectly. It went down the road when I decided I "needed" more speed. Out to have my butt kicked.

Well this is a relating story about the question asked by the op,,,the first real recurve my welfare system mother could ever afford, a bear 35 lb kodiak magnum, green says glass powered, silver badge, so you know the time frame... i shot it to death, along came wheels,a few years later..i went that way,so fast forward about 15 years, one of my childhood buddies worked for my carpentry crew,he was dating a hoe,but she had a cool 11 year old kid, i gave the kid the bow,he thought i was, the man, yadda yadda. 6 years later , i run into my buddy and i look in the rear hatch of his vw rabbit. There lays the bow,, 98 degrees, !!@&###@@!! I said, he says i justran into that old gf and she said take this back, my kid is grown,, he handed me BACK the first real bow i ever had,, and yes i did think often ,,i should have never given that away, and wa laa there it was,, crazy end is both he and her are dead by ther own means....

From: Shifting Shadow
Date: 07-Jul-20

Yes, most of the bows sold I regret. Two that come to mind are a Quinn Stallion and a Widow SAG. The Quinn was the bowyer's personal bow. It was magic. The Widow SAG is no longer made. It was a short recurve with pretty extreme curves. The Widow was so easy to shoot. Oh, a third one would be an Abbott longbow. It was made from yew the bowyer harvested in the Northern Cascades and seasoned for three years. The growth rings on that beautiful yew longbow were so close together.

From: Babbling Bob Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 07-Jul-20

Not now. Might have wanted to have that '63 Tamerlane I bought new with after school working money back a few years ago. Only because it had better looking wood than others I saw back then and it didn't have that ugly side plate Bear put on them in '64 on. Don't need it now, don't want it, and it wouldn't match to what I need for this time in my life. What I need, is to get rid of some of the old roseood recurves I already have. Something to go shoot those short distance 3-D targets with and maybe something to scare a turkey with is about all I'll need till they plant me.
