Folks I’ve made the decision about having the Howard Hill Classic and with all due respect, I’ve made this “Thread” a DEBATE FREE article. Before the announcement about the Howard Hill Classic goes forward, I’m respectfully asking those individuals that want to offer their criticism, their judgment or any other negative comments, PLEASE DON’T.

I will do everything I can to do my part to make this event as safe as possible and hope anyone that wants to come, COME, but be responsible yourself. I someone doesn’t feel comfortable coming, please don’t, I certainly understand.

NOW, with much thought and discussing this with my wife and friends who help me, I have decided to reschedule the 16th Howard Hill Classic to the 2nd weekend in July, the 10th, 11th & 12th, 2020.

With the 1st weekend in June only three weeks away and the July dates eight weeks away, I’m hoping with warmer weather settling in for the next two months, this virus thing will be much better and people may feel more comfortable getting together. The shoot will still be held at Tannehill State Park, here in McCalla, AL.

I’ll be posting many more details and more information about the HH Classic, in further posts, but for right now, THE DECISION is to go forward with this year’s Howard Hill Classic at this later date. AGAIN, July 10th, 11th and 12th, 2020.

Thanks for all the encouragement guys, it is truly appreciated.

NOW, let's get into just a few of the details.

Because the time constraints have been so tight as well as the uncertainty, I didn't order the extra five targets I intended to put on the main course, so there will only be twenty five. The RINEHART Targets are still in outstanding shape and there are no two targets alike on the course. I also wasn't able to order the targets for the Cubs range, so our little ones will still have to shoot the main course as before, NEXT YEAR FOR SURE!!

This year, AND THIS YEAR ONLY, the first round only will count for score and y'all will be shooting for the "American Traditional Archer" Howard Hill Classic 1st Place bet buckle, SHOWN HERE. I again, because I wasn't sure if the shoot would go forward and even still not sure of the kind of turn out as in the past, I couldn't spend the money I normally spend on my Plaques. Especially this year with three more divisions added. A Girls Junior and Youth divisions as well as a Super Seniors division, 70 years and older. All divisions will qualify for a buckle.

I am reducing the rates this year and once your First, Competitive, Round is in, then you can shoot till your fingers hurt.

ALSO, if there are anywhere over 200 participants, THERE WILL BE THE "CHAMPIONSHIP SHOOT DOWN", FOR THE MEN'S & WOMEN'S DIVISION. 1st Place $300.00, 2nd Place $200.00 & 3rd Place $100.00.

Folks, that's enough info for now, don't want to give y'all BRAIN OVERLOAD, lol.

By the way folks, several Vendors have already said they'll be here.

More to come folks.

Folks, I'll be adding more and more info about the event this year. I have already got a few Vendors that have said they'll be here, AND. not only will Byron Ferguson be setting up as a Vendor, but will be having one of his outstanding Shooting Clinics, on Saturday, July 11th.

You can register anytime on Friday and Saturday morning. I'm not sure of the starting time on Saturday, but I would guess sometime between 10 AM & Noon. I'll pass along that information ASAP.

Folks, having to change the Howard Hill Classic to July 10th, 11th & 12th, the event is the week before the IBO World Championship at Twin Oaks in Clarksville,TN.

When I was planning on this year's HH Classic I wasn't intending on having a Men's & Women's RU Class.

NOW, if there are any RU shooters that would like to get in a full three days of practice, NOW'S THE TIME.

You will also be competing for a 1st Place "American Traditional Archer" belt buckle showing 1st Place in the Howard Hill Classic.

Just like the buckle shown above.

Folks, I will take measures to help protect you on the range, and you all can take measures to protect yourselves as well.

As we all know, archers anchor WHERE, hands above the shoulders at either the corners of your mouth or eye.

SO, I will have a hand washing station right before each water cooler, encourage all of you to wash your hands before you touch the water spigot.

If possible, pull your own arrows, OR, have a family member do it. If those shooting are not related, possibly have one arrow puller.

NOW, may I recommend how to pull your arrows. Rather than place your hand against the target for bracing as the arrow is pulled, USE YOUR LEG OR HIP. DON'T PUSH OR PULL THE TARGET, bracing protects the integrity against making the rebar loose, holding the targets in place. COMMON SENSE, RIGHT??

I also encourage you all to bring your own hand sanitizer if possible.

I know July is a little warmer than the first of June, so Tannehill Park will be providing a couple of the Fan Misters so all can walk through for a refreshing cool mist.

Folks, as I stated earlier, I've had to eliminate doing some things I wanted to do this year, even t-shirts.

I had an idea, but was concerned myself as to how it would be received, so I asked a couple of good friends their opinions and got good advice.

I thought of a design and after listening to them and my gut feeling as well, I'm thinking of having a t-shirt made and give any and all profits over my cost to some national organization. The last thing I want to do is profit on what has caused so much pain in our country.

It wouldn't be a lot of money, but my philosophy has always been "a little bit of something's better than a lot of nothing".

Here is the design I was thinking of having on the back of the t-shirt.

The last thing I want to do is offend anyone, so I'm not doing this to make money, but to somehow help somewhere else.

SO, I'm asking for your opinion on this.

Terry Harris

From: Fritz

That’s great I’d go with it.

Since you asked for an opinion “Target an end to COVID-19” seems like the wrong message at a large gathering of people.

From: Pdiddly
Date: 23-May-20

Terry Harris

This may be your thread but it's not your forum or my forum or anyone's forum...people have their rightful opinions about the lack of wisdom of holding an event such as yours.

You started a debate free thread about your shoot, a request that people respected, despite their opinions.

But then you ask an opinion on a T-shirt about Covid-19!

Then when you get a fair opinion that doesn't fit with your take on life in the USA you tell the person you don't like their opinion and they're not welcome.

Wow...it just doesn't end with you and you're not helping yourself...

For example, after your rude comments to monkeyball (a polite and decent man) I had determined I would NEVER attend an event you're involved in.

And you all wonder why these threads keep getting shut down...

Alright folks, as I stated before, there is PLENTY of RV camping sites at Tannehill, so many in fact, easily to space yourself if you want.

I've also mentioned that the spaces right across the bridge entering into Farley Field, are available for the first time ever since I started the HH Classic. They're also right along the creek and next to the bathroom, still very close to the registration area, where the bathhouse and other RV sites are.

I mentioned earlier in the thread about that there enough people, at least 200, I'll have the "Championship Shoot Down", for a $1200.00 pay out split between the 1st, 2nd & 3rd Place Winners of the Men & Women.

THEN, the three winners of both Men & Women will have a shoot down for their own "Top Shot" award.

Folks, next weekend would have been the 16th Howard Hill Classic. I truly feel rescheduling this event was the right thing to do and I am already getting tremendous feedback with lots of enthusiasm about coming in July.

There several great Vendors on board as well, so get ready to do some shopping for your archery needs.

You'll have plenty of time to visit these great Vendors. I'll be opening the Range at 6 AM on Friday, Saturday & Sunday. On Friday & Saturday the range will stay open all day with the last shooter being able to go out at 6 PM, and on Sunday, at 11 AM.

Folks, that's over 12 hours per day and 5 hours on Sunday. Y'all will be able to shoot till your fingers ache, bring liniment, LOL.

Good to hear that Twin Oaks will be hosting the IBO Trad Worlds again this year, following the HH Classic. I have no doubt, it'll be a great event.

Having to reschedule the HH Classic, I did make a call to Pappy before I made my decision, to see whether or not he thought my rescheduling my event the 2nd weekend of July would interfere with their event. So, with Pappy's blessing I went ahead and rescheduled for July 10, 11 & 12, 2020.

NOW, let me add again for those that shoot in the Men's & Women's RU Division in the IBO events, if you can schedule a visit to the HH Classic, you can get in plenty of good practice for the IBO Worlds, PLUS, you get a chance to win an "American Traditional Archer" belt buckle, shown here, like the won I showed earlier.

Folks, my new friend, Juneauhunt, noticed something my wife and I missed when we had the "American Traditional Archer" TOP SHOT Award made. The word "Tradition" rather than "Traditional" was used.

I have had the glass panel on the Award replaced correctly.

Thanks again Juneauhunt.

As I have always tried to do, set up a fun, yet challenging course FOR ALL, the experienced as well as the beginner archer.

I'm hearing from lots of folks that seem to be really excited this event, although rescheduled, is being held.

Terry Harris

From: THarris

Twin oaks, buck hollow and tannehil all in the same weekend, wow. Gonna be a busy weekend. Longcruise, its a traditional shoot in honor of Howard Hill.

From: THarris
Date: 18-Jun-20

Brian, the IBO at Twin Oaks is the following weekend, July 16th thru 19th, 2020.

That way hopefully folks can attend both.

Buck Hollow is two different "One Day" events. An open shoot on the 11th and their Charity Shoot on the 12th.

FYI, I did call Wayne Baggett before I decided whether or not I'd reschedule the HH Classic. I was given their permission and I especially hope the Buck Hollow Charity Shoot does GREAT.

Mike, there are Divisions for Longbow, Recurve & Self Bows. for both Men & Women. Hope this answers your question and hope you can make it. For more information about the Howard Hill Classic, you can check out my web-site at www.americantraditionalarcher.com

Terry Harris

From: Sipsey River
Date: 25-Jun-20

Terry, are you going to make any changes in the classes? As I recall you were originally going to have a super seniors class and maybe an RU/barebow class. I know you have been considering making some changes, I need to know so I can do some practicing with a bow to fit the class and rules. Looking forward to this great event.

From: THarris
Date: 25-Jun-20

John, there is a Super Seniors class for the Men. There will also be a Junior Girls & Youth Girls class.

What I will do for a Men's & Women's RU class, they can shoot for a 1st round Belt Buckle, like everyone else. If they choose to shoot their 1st round as RU, they won't be able to shoot any other classes this year, as is he case for all classes. THIS YEAR ONLY John.

If there are enough, at least 200, participants, the will be a "Championship shoot Down". This part of the competition will not apply to the RU shooters, only the other Men's & Women's classes.

Hope this answers your questions.

Terry Harris

From: Sipsey River

Folks, don't forget, the "Championship Shoot Down" on Saturday afternoon, pays $300 for 1st Place ~ $200 for 2nd Place ~ $100 for 3rd Place, for the Men & Women Competitors.

Then, those Three Winners will shoot against each other for the Men's & Women's American Traditional Archer's "Top Shot" Award, shown earlier in this thread.

And, DON'T FORGET, for those that don't qualify for the "Championship Shoot Down", take your bow to the shoot down area. Rhonda has a pretty cool surprise she'll be unveiling this year.

Folks, in just TWO DAYS, the 16th Howard Hill Classic will get underway.

I've been getting a great response about having this event and I truly believe it will be a very good turnout.

I know there's been lots of controversy surrounding having ANY event in the country in light of Covid-19.

I also believe if everyone is responsible, sanitize their hands as often as possible, shoot with family and even shoot with friends smartly, this event can be done in a safe matter.

Our country has to get back on track people, as well as, get back to our normal way of life.

We can do this as Americans.

Sounds good Pau, looking forward to having ya here.

Folks, tomorrow's the day we'll be kicking off the 16th Howard Hill Classic.

Already have campers setting up yesterday. Others as well as Vendors will be rolling in today and tomorrow.

Weather, although a little warm (low 90's) but typical for July, is looking pretty dang good. Heck, I remember when we had four days the 1st weekend in June where it topped 100 degrees ALL FOUR DAYS!

Tannehill is setting up a couple of Fan Misters so y'all can walk through and get a cool shot, LOL.

People are ready to get out folks, HERE at Tannehill Historical State Park, and then off to the IBO at Twin Oaks in Clarksville, TN.

Back to back weekends of FAMILY, FRIENDSHIP & FUN!!!

haddeerman, you're right, attendance was way down, BUT, the event was held and a good time seemed to be had by all.

Lest ye forget, so much uncertainty, having to reschedule after 15 years of having the HH Classic the same weekend every year, I'm extremely thankful for the folks that came to support it, and BY THE WAY, I'm already planning for next year.
