After 2 weeks of putting my time in and after 4 close calls and one miss, 7:30 this morning I was able to arrow this tom at 18 yds. I always bow hunt them w/o a pop up blind or decoys.

I set up a few ambush locations in this patch of hardwoods but this morning nestled down where two stonewall fences meet. I nailed him as he was displaying. Jack Kempf longbow, 2117's tipped with 160 gr Snuffers.

He weighed 19 lbs, 9" beard and 1 1/4" spurs.

Thanks...been hunting on the ground this way since the 80's using my bow. I've only taken 7 birds over the years but I just enjoy the challenge. I use Diaphram calls and now and then a slate. I need both hands free to draw and shoot. I have to wait for that perfect shot and quite a few times I let birds walk by because I can't draw without being seen. This guy went into a full display giving me time to draw and shoot. I was hoping to send the wing feathers to Todd Pederson here on LW but they were too worn down.
