Anyone else have trouble with carpal tunnel? I started having trouble a year ago. Lately my hand and thumb have been hurting after I shoot. Tonight I wore the hand brace they gave me while I was shooting. I did seam to help with the after shooting pain. It did not inter fear with my anchor like I thought it might. (It's my string hand that gives me the problem). The original problem is work related, not from shooting. wpab

I used to have trouble with my string hand as well from work related. I had carpal tunnel surgery about 5 years ago. No problem anymore.

How long did it take to recover. from the surgery?

Had the surgery on my left (bow) hand and could shoot within the week. My right hand was worse , incredible pain for several years. Started taking turmeric caplets with every meal and it went away in a couple weeks never to return.

Had surgery on my right wrist ( the worse of the two) ,it was easy peasy to say the least. But I may have waited too long because it effected my release a little.

I also had the surgery on both hands. Right hand about 30 years ago (I'm right handed), and it took a long time to heal, but I was a meat cutter and probably went back to work too early, not giving it a chance to heal enough.

Had my left hand done about 5 years ago and healed very quickly.

I'm a retired auto worker , spent many years on an assembly line and I have a lot of painful memories from years of going through the same motions over and over. One of which was carpal tunnel. Our plant physician's husband was a hand specialist and when carpal tunnel first started rearing it's ugly head she would advise us to take vitamin B12. I only had a mild case of it and it doesn't bother me much anymore. Mine usually bothered me at night,it would wake me up with both hands completely numb and tingling. you might try taking the B12 to see if that helps any at all.Good luck with it.

Both hand at a different time. 5 to 6 weeks off work 4 to 6 month before my hands were healed with no pain. I do use my hands for a living.

My dad had both hands done several years ago (not at the same time) and was using them both in a week. He said he wishes he wouldn't have waited so long to get them done. Best of luck to you!

I have carpel on top of an autoImmune CIDP that ate the nerve endings on hands so I have Bokoo issues.

I can't get any more surgerys with this autoimune I have so I keep exercising with a ball, clay ball and the spring tools.

At one point when this first happened I had to learn how to reuse my hands to get them to work again.

I don't believe in surgery to correct this especially when some say it don't last.

There's plenty of things to do to allow you to manage it.

And there's pain killers also at times that help me with this.

What did the cave boy do? He didn't say to sheba tie my sandals I have to go out and shoot dino did he. LOL

Stay away from Drs they ar5e alot of our problems in this world today. Don't get me wrong we need a lot of them but they aren't all created equal as the word says.

I had surgery on both wrists, at different times of course. Recovery was not too bad. My wrists never really hurt but my hands would go completely numb especially while I was sleeping and also when I would drive long distances. I don't mean a little numb but my hands felt like useless clubs on the end of my arms. I was unable to shoot after both surgeries but don't recall the down time being too long.

Just had surgery two months ago on left hand.... It took about six weeks to get back to normal usage.

Carpel, and trigger finger at the same time. 8 wks, to recover.100% now.If you wait to long the tendon gets damaged, and it won't do you much good is what my doctor said.

Thanks guys for the info. I have been hoping to avoid surgery. I wear a brace when I can, hate working with it on. Did shoot with it on last night and it seamed to keep the shooting from agrivateing it.

Turmeric works great for me. I take it every day and the pain is gone. No need to take NSAIDS anymore.

I had the same exact issues as 76aggie. I had endoscopic surgery on my right hand on a Monday and the next Saturday I went duck hunting in my creek boat. I don't remember how long it was before I shot though but I would have had no trouble doing it within 2 weeks.

When I had my carpul tunnel surgery I also had elbow surgery on the same side. So I had to stop shooting for about 2months . By that time the carpul tunnel was healed. It was my elbow that took so long to get to wear I could shoot.

"The original problem is work related" I'm guessing you use a screwdriver a lot?

I've had both hands fixed.

You can get pain relief by icing the palm side of your wrist. You can also do the stretches, which you should hold for at least a full minute or two, several times a day.

wpaben....

If at some point in the future you seek an opinion from qualified medical professionals, ask for their opinion on Ozone injection treatment

Orthop Res Rev. 2019; 11: 61–67.

Published online 2019 May 6.

Interesting effectiveness of ozone injection for carpal tunnel syndrome treatment: a randomized controlled trial

" Recent studies have also suggested local ozone injection as a therapeutic option in some musculoskeletal conditions; ozone (O3) gas is a molecule consisting of three oxygen atoms in a dynamically unstable structure. Ozone therapy has been utilized and studied for more than a century. Ozone is a re-emerging substance that has many biological effects such as bactericidal, immune-modulatory, analgesic, anti- inflammatory, anti-oxidative, as well as enhancing the blood circulation. The most established therapeutic mechanisms are as follows: A) Indirect mechanical decompression in the site of nerve entrapment by increasing tissue oxygenation with reduced venous or lymphatic stasis. B) Suppression of the cell-mediated immune response by inhibiting macrophages from the release of proteinase, and also by induction of inhibitory mediators such as interleukin-10 and TGF-beta. C) Suppression of the humoral immune system, by decreasing the prostaglandins release and pro-inflammatory bradykinins.8 Moreover, the concept of using ozone to heal of infected wounds, necrotic, or poorly oxygenated tissue has been explored in orthopedics and dentistry."

it might be worth having a chat at least

I was having some pain and it was mostly in the morning. I found out it was the way i fold my arms and hands when i sleep . I use a brace when i sleep and am pain free now

It seams the more I wear the brace the better it is. It gets in the way when working though, so I don't wear it then. I wore it shooting again last night (37 targets at our club.) That's twice I have worn it now and no added pain or burning afterwards. For now I am going to keep wearing it when I am not at work and going to try the tumeric tablets. I read allot about it in the last 2 days. Thank you all for your input. I now have several ideas to pursue this depending on what works and what doesn't. wpab

A ace bandage cut in half wrapped around my wrist helps more than the brace. Massaging it and bending has helped mine. Hot water and steam feels good to it. At one time I couldn't put my right hand in my front pocket or even get my billfold out of my back pocket.

I brought this thread back up as an update. I tried all kinds of things and my hand got so bad, that my arm was giving me all kinds of trouble. My hand and thumb would hurt and burn and then the burning ran up my arm and into my back and up my neck. I was taking 4 ibuprofen tablets every 4 hours. I went to a Chiropractor for 6 months to get may back and arm straightened out. I am the biggest procrastinator alive. When work settled down to 40hrs a week back in February, I went to the Dr. By then I had ganglia cysts on my wrist. I was sent for an EMG test. That had my arm and hand flopping around like a fish on dry land. I was glad to hear there was no nerve damage or carpal tunnel. Next was the Orthopedist. Turns out I have no cartlage left in the lower joint of my left thumb. Also a big bone spur that hooks like the bottom jaw of a salmon fish. The right thumb joint isn't very well off either as is the rest of my hands. For now I got steroid shots in the thumb joints and have started using power tools every chance I can. When the shots don't work any more there is a surgery, that they pull a tendon or ligiment from the arm down into the joint and it serves as the cartlage. Most of my life the "old guys" have been telling me that I would regret doing this or that. Damned if they weren't right. I turn 60 this month and have bad knees, hands and constant back pain. On the other hand, I have some great memories and plan on making more. What's the saying about sliding in at the end of life all used up and worn out. I'm on my way. lol wpab
