well.............it didnt break.......BUT!

first of all, i want to thank you guys.

for hammering the idea into my head, that the veneers could crack and break the bow due to stresses i had not factored in, because "brainfart".

when the poly was done curing i literally was afraid to draw it LOL

so i strung it and very gingerly started excercising it, increasing the draw a little at a time.

got to about 18" and i heard..... "tick!" uh oh!

did it again and heard another "tick!" uh oh,uh oh.

sure enough the veneers had cracked in two spots on each limb, very thin hairline cracks.

well crap,

so i thought, hmmmm, what could i do to lessen the strain on them......

so i sanded them down as thin as i possibly could, to the point that i could start to see the red oak grain through the veneer in spots. i figure any veneer left has been soaked with titebond

my reasoning to the sanding was, if it cracked any more,

it would be a less violent crack and hopefully wouldnt blow up the bow when/if it happened.

so then i started drawing it after the sanding,

no more "tick"s , got to my full expanded draw and held it there for 5-6 seconds or so, and did this over and over. then i started shooting it, ive shot it close to 300 times over the last couple of days.

it ended up being 38-39# at my 26.5" ish draw. so right what i was shooting for to be a little above legal poundage for my state.

its crazy quiet, hits where i look even with some slightly stiff woodies, and seems to really thump an arrow into my target (have not chrono'd it yet)

THEN,

since i had sanded the veneers i figure i should just sand down the entire bow and re-helmsman-it lol

so as i type this, the stain has been drying for about 12hrs .........again, then this evening ill go ahead and start spraying the poly...........again LOL

the pic is after the stain.

Seems like if the veneer is thin enough it acts a lot like leaving cambium on a bowstave. This is enlightening and I hope to hear back once you get a few thousand through it to see how it holds up.
