Enter the title of this post on youtube. 200 plus fps with arrows of 1000 grains! Crazy.

From: Runner
Date: 12-Apr-20

Low GPP though.

From: deerhunt51
Date: 12-Apr-20

I find it hard to call 60 gram arrows=926 grains light. If so consider the 63 gram arrows he shoots they weigh 972 grains. Then the 75 gram arrows weigh 1157 grais, I think those are certainly heavy enough!

From: Runner
Date: 13-Apr-20

It's relative to draw weight.

From: GF
Date: 13-Apr-20

GPP is GPP.

What kind of draw weight are we talking about here?

From: GF
Date: 13-Apr-20

OK, so 926 grains /#125 is 7.4 GPP. For a 28” DL, an honest 200 FPS off the fingers from a self bow strikes me as pretty darn good... though his shooting style probably pads the number a bit.

No flies on that bow, for sure...

From: Runner
Date: 13-Apr-20

Not really.

From: deerhunt51
Date: 13-Apr-20

So Runner what weight arrows you shooting off your 125# bow?

From: deerhunt51
Date: 13-Apr-20

125# bow shooting 1157 grains is 9.256 grains per pound of draw. Don't remeber the exact speed, I think he got close to 180fps. That art to kill anything on this planet.

From: shade mt
Date: 13-Apr-20

once you start using arrows that heavy at those speeds...does gpp really matter?????

sheesh ....that's impressive.

From: shade mt
Date: 13-Apr-20

anyone that DOESNT think that's impressive....launch a 1000 gr arrow out of yer ole 50 lb recurve and get back to us...lol

will this suddenly start a new 125# longbow fad? time will tell.

maybe if we keep saying....."I think I can, I think I can, I think I can"

but man I'd sure like to try! kinda like.....hey bubba, watch this.

From: Dry Bones
Date: 13-Apr-20

I shot a 90# longbow a few years back. It was not 90 at my draw, and yes I did reach anchor, but WOW that was a lot of bow. NO way I want to attempt a heavier one, so if there is a 125# fad, it will have to o on without me.I will have to agree with Charles. An arrow of that weight at 200 FPS, should do for anything on Earth. My question is, can it be done accurately enough or would that be an arrow volley only bow??

7.4 gpp is hard on bows. Great for awhile but continued use, especially on a self bow, will lead to early destruction. But fun to try for a short time.

Did you hear about the spines, not of the arrows, but the guys who shot the bows?

I watched a tube video yesterday where a young man unwrapped a new #240 pound long bow. He couldn't draw it but about 12 inches.

From: RJH1
Date: 13-Apr-20

I watched that video a day or so ago, pretty impressive. According to the google calculator that 75 gram arrow is over 1150 grains. 1150 at 199.5 fps is pretty cool. I would like to know the diameter of those arrows, they are pretty fat.

From: Runner
Date: 13-Apr-20

deerhunter, I use even lighter arrows for that draw weight.

btw the idea that a self bow is less able to handle light gpp arrows is a total myth. There's no glue joints to come apart.

Not sure why this is hitting the boards now though. The TBB showed a picture of Simon Stanley shooting a heavy longbow that exceeded 200 fps 30 years ago.

From: RJH2
Date: 13-Apr-20

Runner,

It may be hitting now cause Joe Gibbs was the archer in the "archers vs armour" video that was released a few months ago and has gotten a lot views. Just a guess though. And Simon Stanley is a beast, i like his videos too, but haven't seen a new one with him in a while

The 125 club also took off a while back. At least a decade ago. Plenty of pictures and videos of mostly scrawny guys shooting 100 plus pounders.

We haven't had a thread on "how dumb they are to wreck their bodies" and "can they hit anything" in a while though.

John Murray shoots bows of 125#-165# using replica arrows that he also makes. I just weighed 2 of his arrows and both were 1925-1945 grains. I don't know how fast they fly with his traditional 32" draw, but I have seen them fly out of sight on our flight range.

From: JusPassin

My shoulders started hurting just watching that video.

200 fps? With a 1,000 grain arrow? I flat-out don't believe it.

Long draw, heavy bow. Pretty simple.

I wonder what 125# Osage bow would do. Anyone here finished at that weight or shot one

From: Jeff Durnell Professional Bowhunters Society - Associate Member

Those 'diminishing returns' are huge.

From: Runner
Date: 18-Apr-20

There would be nothing more magical about an Osage bow at that weight.

From: Arvin
Date: 28-Apr-20

I have a fifty pound Osage bow that shot 460gr. 239 yds. I would be surprised if the heavy bows shoot the heavy Arrows much farther. Granted the heavy would penetrate more!!! I’m a weakling. Y’all have fun.??

They really don't. Warbow Wales has a record list.

Yeqstix, I got that reference. Lmao. Just explained it my girlfriend, younger by a decade plus. She laughed too. Great short story, your reference. BTW, my compound bow wielding hunt partner seriously wondered why I do not build a war bow for desert mulie use.

From: nineworlds9
Date: 28-Apr-20

I once dabbled in the concept of hunting with a warbow, had a 76" 100 pounder with 3/8 shafts that I mounted STOS heads to. I could should it accurately out to about 20 yards, it was a real laugh watching my deer target flop back and forth each time it got hit. I never killed anything with the setup but it was fun to test it. After shooting a number of heavy rigs later on I concluded that the most devasting setup I tried was a set of 78# Morrison carbon ILF limbs, man was that thing a missle launcher!
