Hey folks, need your help with tuning my new Mentor. I've been shooting it just about everyday since I got it 13 Feb 2020. It's 60", #53 @ 28". I'm drawing between 28 1/2 - 28 3/4. Arrows are 29 1/4, 2216, 3 fletches. I've tried heads 125-200gr. 200's seem the best. Shooting off the self and split finger. I've adjusted the tiller from 7"-8" in 1/8" increments and no real difference except for noise. Sometimes they fly great other times not so good. Most of the time it's fishtailing that's the problem. Not sure if it's my form, getting used to it over my BW or if I need to change anything. Any and all help/suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

With 200gr up front those arrows should be getting there, you may need 225-250gn depending on the thickness of your strike plate. Sounds like they may be a bit too stiff still. Either that, or it's just your release.

How many # was your last bow? Did you go up in poundage a lot?

I would try 2016's with lighter tips, 2018's with the heavier tips.http://www.arrowskp.com/Spine_Charts.html

You can adust the brace height with a wood bow but not the tiller. Well on the LW I should say if you adjust the tiller you'll have to refinish the bow.

Adjust it to where you find the least noise. I'd say that 2216's are pretty stiff for 55 ish pounds, but should be able to make it work. I think you'd be better off with 4t5's suggestion.

Agree that your arrows may be a bit stiff. Also, probably wise to stay near the higher side on the brace height. Might try going above 8 inches.

"Sometimes they fly great other times not so good."

Right there is the answer.

Thanks for the suggestions. I only went up one pound from my last bow.

Bowmania, yes I meant brace height. I sure don't want to refinish a new bow yet. lol

Will give these suggestions a try, thanks.

Roger...one of the first things to do is to concentrate on executing the shot correctly. 9 out 10 time (nad probably more than that) when any of us have good arrow flight on one shot and poor arrow fight on another we are the culprit.

Don't chnge anything until you are getting consistent results whether good or bad.

Try raising your nock point. Try shooting cockfeather in.

Those 2216 should work fine. I don't think you need heavier points.

I agree with fdp,,when i micro focus on my form and release, usually tuning problems magically disappear...just my opinion

Thanks everyone. I can adjust my field points up to 250r and will defiantly concentrate on how I hold the bow, anchor and release. Thanks again.

I agree 100% with 4t5, the 2216's is way to stiff, part of the reason sometimes they fly good and sometimes not, and having to use such a heavy point weight to even get it to fly semi- correctly. Depending on your point weight choice a 2016 or 2018 would be a much better choice for you, the 2018 is the stiffer shaft. A 2216 is a stiffer shaft than a 2117. The 2117 is stiffer than a 2018, which is stiffer than the 2016. I have a 30" draw, shoot a 31" 2117 with a 175gr point and get bullet holes in paper out of my 64" 50#@28" Samick Journey using a High Performance String. So way longer draw than you, probably pulling 57# at that draw, shooting a lighter spine and longer shaft, than your 2216. To get a 2216 to fly right out of my bow, I have to have it at 32" to weaken it enough to get it to fly right. The shorter the shaft the stiffer it becomes, the longer the weaker it becomes.
