Hey Guys, Wheres the best place to get an extra long set of ILF longbow limbs ? Who makes the best ? or really good quality

Thanks, Ghost

Even the cheaper ones will shoot better than you can likely shoot them. ;) Opinions here will vary more than the weather on Mount Washington, so best case may be to call Lancaster Archery and talk to the guys who shoot them regularly. Don't assume that more expensive means better shooting...it doesn't work that way for the most part.

George is correct, but I will say that I have owned a few pair, including centaur, ace, and dryad, and the only ones that I really liked were the Morrison carbon foam set. Not much to go on, and that set is 75#. Maybe I wouldn't like the same limbs in a different poundage. Good luck.

It matters a LOT what kind of riser you put them on. Some ILF risers are really bad platforms for longbow limbs.

X2 of what FDP said about ILF platforms.

Imo the best are sky. But, for the money ya cant beat the 3r bamboo lb limbs.

I've owned and shot a lot of ilf longbow limbs, and used them on a lot of different risers, and the only ones I still own are the carbon/bamboo limbs from Bosen Archery. They are great performers.

care to elaborate?

Many ILF riser are designed with take off angles "limb deflex" that are strictly confined to the use of recurve limbs.

That being the case they require longbow limbs to be braced way above optimum brace height to get them to perform well. They are noodley if the brace height isn't jacked up and when they are jacked up they become grossly slow and inefficeint.

So what is the magic balance and what is more important , pad angle or riser deflex? If I'm understanding terms correctly and ,just eyeballing the Satori which is what I'm thinking of hooking to some longbow limbs , appears to have a greater amount of deflex but pretty "straight" pad angles when compared to other risers.

From: fdp

The defelx is a combination of limb pad angle and the deflef in the riser/handle as well as the position of the pivot point in relation to the limb tips at brace.

That riser was designed as a pure recurve riser from the git go, so eventhough I'm a huge Hoyt fan I'd say it will most likely be a dog UNLESS you can find some really aggressive reflex limbs that are going to move the limb tips further forward prior to bracing and keep them there when you reach a reasonable brace height.

One of those deals where you may have to go through several sets of limbs with different profiles to find soemthing that suits you, and then you may not find them then.

Of course the length of the riser you are considering comes in to play to some degree as weel.

Typically you want a riser with minimal deflex and as straight a limb pad angle as you can get. Soemwhere in the 18 or so degree range.

Also, you have to consider your draw length in the equation. Guys with longer draws can get away with risers that have more deflex, simply because they are going to draw the bow further, and load the limbs up more.

Personally if I had a medium draw length (which I do) and I wanted a riser that I knew would perform well with both D/R longbow limbs and recurve limbs I would get an old Pro-Line Typhoon riser (or one of the many similar Pro-Line risers that have a 15 ish degree limb pad angle, have it WARFED and be just as happy as a clam.

Thanks for the golden nuggets of wisdom.^ Makes all the sense in the world especially when you see the forward grip and think about brace heights. appreciate it :)

Who makes an ILF riser soley for shooting longbow limbs. This question is in response to what Mr FDP said.

From: fdp
Date: 07-Dec-19

The Dryad Epic riser is a very good dual purpose riser, the Ultra-Lite Mountain Hunter looks like it would be a good one although I haven't shot it, Bob Morrison I think still makes his 15"riser that is a good longbow riser, I've been told Tribe makes a riser that works well with longbow limas well, but again I haven't shot it.

For my money though I'd go with a WARFED Pro-Line to be completely honest.

I'm not sure anybody makes an ILF riser designed specifically for longbow limbs. I mean there really isn't much of a market for one at this point in time I don't think.

I just bought the left hand Voodoo riser from Swift 10. Looking to make a 60-62"long bow around 40-45 pounds at 28-29" Looking for suggestions

Thanks, Tom

Which limbs did he have on it? He had it advertised as 50lbs. so that would be a starting point.

From: greyghost

Riser is 12.5" said he had the "long limbs" on it and it made a 60" bow. Said they were an inexpensive brand with didn't say what brand. Brand doesn't matter to me as long as the quality is good.

From: Buglmin

Tribes riser was designed to be used righ recurve limbs. Unless you get some high performance limbs, you're not gonna be happy with the performance. I know guys using Morison and VPA riser with longbow limbs with great performance. Bosen makes riser just for their longbow limbs as well.

greyghost what were the libs rated draw weight wise that he was using?

That will give you an idea of the gain/loss of draw weight on that riser and you can get pretty close to the weight you want.
