Would anyone have a date for a Kodiak Mag serial number beginning with KU83xxx? Your help is much appreciated.

Please post a picture of the riser.

KU-serial number prefix was from 1970 to 1976. Would need more information and pictures to narrow it down more.

Ok, here is a try.

That sir is a 73, 74 or 75 year model. Those years all used KU prefix serial numbers and it has the white tips and overlays on the back of the riser. Green futurewood with a blue stripe.

My guess with the blue stripe is 1975.

1975...

73,74 and 75 were all identical in features. How are you guys ruling out that it's not a 73 or 74?????

I was guessing, very early 70’s, but obviously, I need someone that knows more than I do.

The green futurewood in K-Mags started in 1973.

75...placement of stabilizer bushing is the key

My money’s on 1975 also. Lance

If the serial number is black, it is a ‘73. If the numbers are white it is a ‘74-‘75

1973 to 1976 had a KU-serial number prefix. The script on them was black until early to mid- 1974 then was changed to white script. 1973 to 1976 all had the stabilizer bushing factory installed. The stabilizer bushings were first factory installed in the Kodiak Magnums in 1971. Of course 1976 can be ruled out because the overlay colors are green/blue futurewood for 1976. 1973 to 1975 all were 52"amo. And had green futurewood riser, standing bear button, forest green glass, white/green glass overlays with green tips, and a KU-serial number prefix. So it comes down to the color of the script ( writting ) on the bow. If black 1973 to mid-1974, if white mid-1974 to 1975.

It does have the black script, so it must be a ‘73 model. Thank you all for the replies. I really appreciate it.

If it is important to you that it is a 1973 bow then more power to you.

Other than me the individuals who say 1975 are pretty well known here for their expertise.

I have only had Kodiak Magnums from the 60's.

No Sir, Dave, it isn’t. I’m just trying to get a close proximity. I wasn’t trying to take one particular opinion over another. Sorry if it seemed that way.

If your bow has the black script like you said it is a 1973 to early 1974 Kodiak Magnum according to my information.

The white glass veneers on the front of the riser may make it a '73. 1974 and 1975 had green future wood veneers. But, every year had different variations. Al Reeder once told me that with Bear Bows, anything variation is possible for any year.

Those were high production years at Grayling. I have a feeling people used whatever materials they had handy. Used whatever ink too.

Makes me happy I am not looking for a 70's birth year bow.

I looked it up in Jorge L. Coppen’s book. I don’t to claim to be a expert on Bear bow.

The futurewood riser overlays were in 1976.
