No built-on addition to house my trophy heads, or show-off my collection of bows and such. Out here it' a man "cave", or better known as the cellar.

The desk is built from wood left over from my father-in-law's old shop, formerly a pig pen on the family farm. My "cave" was built in 1989 from hand hewn chestnut logs and now more closely resembles a cellar from 1898. ;) Nonetheless, it's one of my favorite places where I can vegetate, stay warm in the winter, and devise plans that rarely come to fruition.

House was built in 1898. Proof reading would have fixed that. )

That's a sharp looking desk. I have similar items that I call "treasures". Sometimes the wife agrees and sometimes she doesn't. When she gives me the thumbs down, it ends up in the basement where the Kool Kids hang out :) BTW, years ago I kept horses on an old farm and helped the owner expand his cellar..what was originally a root cellar really, into a basement. Walls were fieldstone with outside entrance, the old "double doors arrangement" That place was 1800's and very solid.

George, I think it looks and sounds like a great place to hang out!

It needn’t be fancy George, it only needs to be yours and appreciated. What a nice, nice spot to “vegetate” as you say. Stay Safe/Shoot Straight. MTQuiver

Looks comfy George, I'd show mine but I'm the process of clearing out all crap I don't need and have stuff all over the place getting it sorted out.

I miss cellars, we don't have them in Texas. Can remember my grandfathers "nook" behind the furnace in the basement.

He used to disappear right before supper and come back with a hint of beer.

From: Nemophilist

So that is where your wife sends you for a time out. "LOL"

From: George D. Stout
Date: 04-Dec-19

Frank...yes. ;)

I don't like bourbon but there may be some sweet wine in the fridge on the other side of the divided cellar. Haven't had any beer for a couple years, just lost my taste for it. I'm more of a Kool-Aid kind of guy, but I do like me some coffee and hot cocoa as well.

Hey Wayne. I've got more lighting, just not turned on for the photo. Sometimes less is more for a happy place.

Perfect place to hang out in the winter months.

Frank, LOL..

From: RymanCat

Looks like a shed or in a basement? LOL

George if I was in that place I would need a Headlight to be able to see. LOL

I looked again it must be in basement with the pipe showing.

I guess where ever you can get away to.

A round of Kool-Aid for all of the plans that rarely come to fruition. Harrumph!

From: George D. Stout

The balance of the old shop/pig pen is going to my daughter for a garden shed, and some was turned into small tables for her living room. Her friend Tim Wilson did the work and will be building here "she shed". ;)

Looks like a haven from the external chaos, so you can spread out the internal chaos on the desk and get it organized. I envy your ability to keep the tools and peices of projects off your desk.

From: M60gunner
Date: 05-Dec-19

Nice place George. Really like that table top. I am sure there are some good memories in your “cave”. Unfortunately my cave is a mess. My space also has shelved area that stores our Christmas stuff. Wife has it scattered all over. I am literally “out in the cold” for awhile. Did manage to finish a doz new arrows for upcoming 3D shoots.

From: George D. Stout
Date: 05-Dec-19

We have a divided cellar and it is messy all the time because it's a cellar, not an extra living space. On the other side is a refrigerator, two freezers, two pantrys and shelving that holds things we think we need but likely will never use. Also a water pump, hot water heater and a space for our Christmas decorations too. ;) My side has the furnace, and two 275 gallon tanks, and my 'stuff'.

George I am a woodworker also known as a guy who makes sawdust. Chestnu is one of the beautiful woods. To bad it’s died out. I know they are trying to bring it back but at 74 don’t think I’ll see it. So enjoy and treasure.

We had to put our old lab down last November...2018, not ready for another right now.

From: Codjigger
Date: 06-Dec-19

George I hope you have a woodstove in there, no northern man cave has the right atmosphere without one. As it is snowing right serious here in Ontario I just went Downstairs and fired up ours and added some split maple. I have a pile of wooden shafts to work on. Stay warm. Sandy

From: George D. Stout
Date: 06-Dec-19

Mine is virtually surrounded by dirt...a real cellar, so the temp rarely goes very cold. Matter of fact, we keep our thermostat set at 60 in the entire house and we like it better that way. Anyway, that would just raise our homeowner's insurance. Atmosphere can get expensive and I just finished paying for a new roof. ;)

Craig, yes it is a pvc shipping tube. It's been sitting in that spot since I got Ol' Buck back to the house from it's six + years on the road. One of the guys that had Ol' Buck made that for him to travel in and it, like the bow itself, has some signatures of the users too. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the bow and the tube since they both were travelling...maybe raffle it off for St. Judes one of these days.

Looks exactly like my basement, right down to the white washed, hand-hewn post.

Well, except that it’s 2 years older and a whole lot less cluttered!

From: Fisher

You guys have great places to hang out.

We live in a small ranch style house with no basement. The garage is not heated. In the winter, i have no heated refuge. The winters are loooooooong.

We are going to build a new house. Maybe someday i will have a heated winter refuge.
