What is the most unusual broad head in your collection? And which is the most valuable? What started you collecting broad heads?

Not a collector but I had two original John Hauch Blood Trail hunting heads. These were the tube type experimental heads. They are about rare as you get. John sent my dad 3 of them to field test but dad refused to use them. He gave one to Floyd Eccleston for his collection. I got the other two when my dad died.

The version that came out in 1956 I think for retail sales was nic named the birds beak.

Sure would like to see a picture of that head Jon. When you get a chance. Never even heard of that one. Thanks for sharing that.

I don't have the Blood Trails any more.

I sent these two heads to a collector who came back with them being Zwickey special for Bear heads, 1942. Not in the best shape but on the rare side. I still have these heads.

The top one has a crease in the head just below the hole on both sides of the head. Not sure if it is suppose to be there but both look the same.

When I was a kid in the fifties living in VA I collected stone found arrowheads. These were then traded to buddies for "modern" metal arrowheads. It wasn't long and I had a couple dozen different model target, field, and broadhead arrowheads. That spurred my interest and by the mid-sixties I had a hundred or so different model broadheads. I was fascinated by all the different shapes and sizes,...and I was hooked,...I became a broadhead collector!

I continued with my collecting and by the mid-seventies I had a few hundred different broadheads. Over the years my collection grew and my interest in broadheads continued. I certainly am not as active as I once was but I still feel broadhead collecting is a fascinating hobby and a great way to learn about archery and bowhunting history.

I have been very privileged to have owned many unusual broadheads over the years. A few of my favorites were the Flying Dutchman (by Dutch Wambold), experimental Herpins, pinned ferrule Bear Razorhead, an experimental Herter's head by Bob Barrie that looked something like a Browning Serpentine, and some one-of-a-kind models given to me by Roy Case.

Back in the seventies another collector from WI and I visited with the above mentioned John Hauch at his home in Stevensville (if I remember correctly) and he was generous enough to pass along a few models of those early round Blood Trails. Quite the unusual broadhead design! And yes, they are quite rare.

I really don't collect old heads but I do have a "barbed" Howard Hill and a Browning Serpentine. Pearson Deadheads I still use along with my Zwickey

My bad...I have a bubblehead Razorhead not a pinned Razorhead (I wish).

That Swinehart broadhead is sinister looking. Medieval.

Roper Indian. Not especially rare but eye-catching.
