I’m looking for a outfitter recommendation for a trad bow moose hunt. Probably Newfoundland. I’m hoping someone has a good experience this year. I know outfits change so 10 year old info may not be on target in 2020. Thanks in advance for any help. Boomer.

Ric Visscher. Alberta I shot my bull with them last year and both son-in-laws went back up this past September and saw close to 20 bulls apiece.

Where Ya Wannbee Outfitters in NL.

Experienced with bowhunting.

Guides know and understand it.

Not a bowhuntng only camp....but they do a fair bit of guiding for bowhunters.

Maybe things have changed but as of a few years ago they would take archery hunters for moose but they didn't have any experience with traditional archery hunters. I couldn't find any NL outfitters with trad bow experience for moose. I've read a few stories from trad guys who went for moose in NL with assurances from the outfitter that they knew what was needed for success with stickbow hunters only to come back with "horror" stories of their hunt.

huntmaster70,

I found the guides at Tuckamore excellent for those of us who shot recurves and longbows. They put us on the moose, then it was up to us from there.

We ALL made sure to as early as possibe so the moose weren't skittish nor in the rut. I was a spot and stalk deal for us. Everyone had a chance to kill a bull moose; some of us missed; most of us brought home bull moose.

1buckurout Do you suggest the first hunt of the season? I have rifle hunted that week 3 times before but was curious if the rut made it easier to get recurve close. I am interested in the meat and can do without the rut stink for sure! Boomer

Thanks 1buckurout & nocking point for the info. Maybe there still might be a stickbow moose hunt in my future before I checkout.

Boomer, If memory serves me correctly, I shot my moose on day 2 after seeing over 40 different moose. My guide was fully aware of what it took to get me in range for my recurve. I hunted the early at archery season , they weren't rutting yet so it was strictly spot and stalking.

Goes to show you that picking an outfitter is a crap shoot. I hunted with Rays and it was a nightmare, biggest waste of 5 grand of my lifetime. Moose Valley gets good reviews.
