I know Phil from England has shot some old bows. So I figured I would give her a shot and pull her to full draw. I will have to try some arrows out of this old long bow now. Like George always says. Bows were meant to be shot. Even the old ones.;-)

My first post was suppose to say. Some of "you" that's been on here a really long time. Yes I still have this old long bow. That I can't find anything about it. My guess is from the 1920's or maybe a little older. Someone said there is a mention of J.H. Baker in the Witchery of Archery. I have never read it. Anyone know for sure?

I’m not sure Mike. It’s very dark in color.. Osage does get dark with age.

You never know till you try. A bow that is never shot is likely the most useless thing there is. They were made to be used and if and when they break, then they can become an object to look at. Nothing to lose at all. Hope you get some entertainment from it.

Does look like a pretty nice bend. I think it's found a good home.

I had a large number of old bows. Strung them all and shot randomly through out the year in my basement. Got rid of all when I move from Michigan when I no longer had a archery range in a controlled environment. John

Thanks Phil. I know you have shot older bows. And the more I thought about it. I said what the heck. And gave it a try. And I'm glad I did. Some one on here said there was a mention of a J.H. Baker in the Witchery of Archery. I have to read it for myself. We have to find out if that bow Is English or American made.

Does anyone know if a guy by the name of Hugh Soar posts on here? I heard he knows quite a bit on the history of long bows.

Don I spoke to Hugh about your bow when you first posted it on here. He told me he couldn't find any info on that maker.
Pearldrums says there's a reference to Baker in Horace Fords theory and practice, can't find it in any of the editions I have of the book.

Have you ever read the Witchery of Archery by Murice Thompson Phil? There is suppose to be mention of J.H. Baker in there as well. I have never read it. But that is one I want to read. Along with From the Den of the Old Bowhunter.

Thanks for asking Hugh about the Bow Phil. I sure would like to find out more about it. It was pretty cool to shoot it. And feel that bend through handle. I'm more a recurve guy. But I have to say very enjoyable to shoot.
