Is 12.6 GPP to heavy. They fly great. This is a 48 inch 31 lb longbow.I draw 26 am shooting GT warrior 500 cut 26.5. would any combination be any more effective or easier to shoot. I shoot 3D and small game.

A longer bow is always easier to shoot. It's all about string angle.
If your broadhead arrows are hitting where your field arrows hit, you're good. Adjust the head to adjust the GPP and you won't be tuned.

If they aren't landing at your feet, they aren't too heavy. ;) Seriously, numbers are just numbers and many times don't correlate all that well with reality many times. I have arrows that are 13 gpp, and believe it or not, they will fly well out to 60 yards if I need them too. Lots of things you can do to enhance trajectory, even with heavier, slower arrows. And slow is also a subjective term.

There’s no way in hell he’s properly tuned with a 500-spine Carbon cut to 26 1/2” out of a #31 longbow that’s not cut past center. Just not gonna happen. I don’t think Mike cuts that bow TO center, let alone past it.
That said, if they fly well enough for your purposes, then shoot them ‘til they’re gone.
JMO, The ideal GPP for any given shooter is whatever he likes to shoot. Personally, I seem to do best at about 8.5 to nine- something. Really no wrong answer, although I’m not sure I would encourage anyone to hunt with an arrow under 400 grains. Not saying it can’t be done, only that I would not encourage it.

GF what do you recommend. I do not hunt deer with that bow. I guess just not sure how I should tune it. Am I to stiff or what. Help me out. Only time I get a wobble is a bad release. Otherwise groups and shoot fine. Never tuned or messed with a bow that short. How heavy of an arrow should I be shooting in that bow.

Don't get hung up on numbers. I've seen it damn near paralyze people from doing what should be a fun thing. What is it you want to accomplish with the bow. Are you going to shoot long range, as in field archery? If you shoot 3 under with a high anchor, the heavy shaft may also be detrimental to longer shots.
I shoot a split finger style, so I have no issues reaching longer targets, but if I'm choosing an arrow particularly for field archery distances, I'll stay as close to 9 gpp as I can get. I would also never tell a person what weight to use. I know a guy who hunts with 380 grain arrows (carbon) and shoots through deer on a regular basis. Somehow we have become so enthralled with numbers that we really don't understand what arrow weights can do to simple thin skinned animals like deer. If your not hunting with it, then I would question using a heavy arrow.

Thanks George. Got bow shooting good. Going to forget numbers. Just weighed an arrow that was the mistake. I can kill a squirrel with it and am going to target shoot or grandson anyway. I think we’re good. Just tuning the arrow to fly good. What it comes out to is what it is. Thanks.

RResse, yes you are way too stiff a spine arrow. If your bow is 31#@28" you are drawing 26# or less at 26". I would guess 800 spine arrows would be a starting point. Also, if you chose to buy new arrows, don't cut them before shootin a few made up full length. You could get 260 grians totoal arrow weight with full length 800 spine arrows, and a much flatter trajectory. Speed would be increased which would help hunting small game as they move fast when shot at.

Ebay usuall has Carbon Express Predater II arrows in 800 spine for a very reasonable price, something like $40 a dozzen. Check with Lancaster as well for half-out inserts as you will need them for shooting broadheads when hunting. Good luck, and I believe your shooting expireance will be improved with proper arrows.

So 31#@26" wiil be either 700 spine full length or perhaps 800 spine cut a little depending on tip weight. It would be great if you could try before you purchased a dozzen, but I think either could be tuned to work.

I agree that 500 spine is waaaay too stiff. Now it is not uncommon for shops who do not know better to sell them to people using light bows and they can fly OK. I see it often. So use them for short range practice until you lose a few.
When you order new ones I also suggest 800 spine for your short draw length.
I happen to have a 31# longbow that I use 370 grain arrows with, but I draw 29". I like arrows that are a bit heavy for the bow, but not by as much as yours.
That bow will come alive with 800 spine carbon arrows, trimmed to 28 or 29 inches. - lbg

lol well i tuned a 500 arrow to shoot out of a bow. But i have now tuned a proper arrow for a bow. 31#@26 700 cut to 27 1/2 with a 150 up front. Darts, its good now.

You throw darts, so no way arrows shoot like them.
Well tuned arrows just shoot well.
