This hurts and I know better. First off , I am the guy always reminding guys to flex there arrows when they have impact the ground or or hit by other arrows. Couple of reasons this happened.
1. I didn’t pull the arrows and lost track of which was which.
2. I ware an arm guard always, though I do not hit my arm. Today I was not wearing my Fitbit and it keeps my arm guard higher up and would have gave me some protection.
My friend standing next to me actually watched the arrow break in the cresting and push the string into my arm. Then the front half of arrow contacted the riser and broke in half.
So as we all know don’t forget, flex those carbons.

Nasty but better than it may have been. I don't use carbons, but when I use wood and fiberglass I try my best to flex them after a hard hit. We all tend to forget though now and then. Glad it was no worse.

I have always wondered about the amount of flex needed. I'm just afraid of over bending and unnecessarily breaking an arrow. Also, does the spine have anything to do with the amount of flex?

You just have to flex an arrow a little past straight. Do every kind of arrow, not just carbons, and rotate them as you flex them. Look closely for crack lines and listen carefully for cracking noises or anything unusual. If you hear or see anything, then really lean on it and see if it opens up. Better to loose a ten dollar arrow than ten percent of your annual household income on a catastrophic accident.

Doesn’t take mush flex but it’s very common for arrows to crack in the fletching. You have to remember to flex the fletching area. RonL

Ron, are you sure one of the guys wasn’t aiming at your arrows? Got to watch that crowd. Be there Wednesday and next Sunday.

X2 ^^^^^ I love aluminum for any bow. I just had a hunting pal tell me about his friend who put a blown up carbon through his hand. Nasty injury as it was splintered and looked like a Sturgeon spear in his hand.

I was shooting my wood arrows last week and the fourth one shot way left and down. I could have shot it again to see If I had a hangup somewhere, but instead I flexed the shaft and it broke right over.
It will happen to all arrows, I was lucky.

RonG That is so true. In the debate over wood versus carbon that is often forgotten.

Wood can be dangerous if you don't check it too! My left thumb would agree after the surgeon took 2 inches of shaft out of it. Not something you want to have happen if possible. Glad to see you didn't get hurt any worse.

This is the one thing about carbons that really makes me wonder if I want to hunt with them.
Slim chance, but I’d sure hate to see a critter dealing with that...

The arrow penetrated down the back of his index finger to the second joint. About 4 inches total. Surgery was needed to remove it.
