I got a new Bear TD today. Wanted one since forever. The bow is a B with number 3 limbs making it 64 inches. I like a longer bow because of my almost 30 inch draw length. Anyway, the same 2114s cut to 32 inches with 175 in front that fly like darts from my 64 inch 44 @ 30 BW PMA will not fly any where near acceptable from the Bear. Played with it for about two hours. The Bear is maybe a pound heavier. Shooting both the same way...3 under. It did get slightly better when I took off the leather side plate and replaced with Velcro but still not even close. Things that make ya say hummmmm!

I would bet the difference is how deep the shelf is cut, your widow is cut past center and the bear is probably not as deep, so it will need a lighter spined shaft. The deeper the shelf the heavier the spine needs to be. Try a 1916 and see what happens.

That’s kind of what I was thinking Bob. Maybe I’ll make the Bear a little more towards center I would really like to shoot the same arrows from both bows.

Exactly. The shelf on the BW is much deeper..inside center. They are different animals in that regard.

Thanks for the replies guys. Maybe I’m just a bit spoiled by the Widow. I’ve had it for a long time and have used it almost exclusively since 2008 to take a bunch of critters. I really wanted to use the same shafts with it. Unless I modify the Bear, that’s probably not going to happen.

I like the way you think Bluesman. I do have a BUNCH of 2114s I made up though as well as a bunch of shafts. I shot my taperd cedars, spined 60 and were left full length with a 145 field point and they did much better. I like my good ole' XX75 though.

Differences in Limb design can make a world of difference also. Are they both shooting the same type of string material ? String material, if one is High Performance and one B50, will make a difference also. DANNY

Both are high performance strings. Different materials though. The factory Bear string was absolute crap, (they shoud be ashamed of them) but I had another BW string on hand that made things a bit better. My Widow wears a string from Ten Ring and he makes the best strings I have ever used.

Your Widow string braces the Bear, but does it brace it at the correct height? Should be around 7 1/2-8 1/2 inches for a 64-inch Bear.
Regardless, I agree with bluesman. Don't mess with the riser. First, you're not sure that's the problem. And if it isn't, you'll ruin it's resale value.

Orion, it is right at 8 1/4 with plenty of room to twist or untwist with the widow string.

Aromakr and Mr.Stout, nailed it. The arrow spine for your Bear needs to be lightened. Bluesman, had a good idea, too.

If you want to shoot the same arrows in both bows, build the strike plate out on the widow until it matches the Bear. It will still require new arrows, but they will then shoot the same arrow.

What aromakr said. The Bear risers are cut really close to center. They don't like an overly stiff setup.

Thanks guys......Looking at some on line info.....with my 32 inch arrow and 175 up front shooting #45 at 30....I'm seeing 2016? May have to find a 1916 as was reccommended and give that a go. This is new ground for me. I reduced weight a lot by necessity in 2008 with the widow and never had an issue with pretty much whatever I wanted to shoot within reason from that bow. I've been a stickbow hunter since I was 12 or so. Always tuned until the arrow looked good and hit where I was looking with a broadhead. Nice to experience some new ground.....but I still wish my dang 2114s flew good from the Bear! Anyway, thanks again guys....it is appreciated. I'm still open to any other suggestions.

Maybe someone else can chime in but that 2114 setup you're describing is only showing around a 37# spine on Stu's calculator.

Are the limbs 40 on the B riser? If so, at your draw, I think that arrow setup might be light. If you leave your bow numbers the same, you can change arrow numbers until you find an aluminum that's in the ballpark. Lighter field points may help as well.

Yes allegheny...limbs are marked 40@28. So I'm guessing 45-46 at my draw length.

I think trying some lighter points might work. Maybe 100 or 125 grains up front.

Allegheny, If you think my arrow setup may be light, how will lowering my point weight help with that? Lowering point weight will further stiffen spine. Please explain.

Shot some this morning. My 60-65 spined woods left full length with a 145 field point shoot good. When I put 150 up front on the 2114s, they do better than with 175....but not acceptable. So that tell me I'm underspined with my 2114's. BTW I errored in stating my arrow length. My arrows are 31 inches.

Try a weather rest on the Bear. You just night find the arrows shoot just right with the 175s.

If it helps any, draw 30”. With an A riser and #3 limbs, 46@30 on my scale, I shoot 31” 3555 Goldtip Trads with 3 5” feathers and 175gr up front including the insert, tunes perfectly for me. Total arrow weight of 492gr. That setup is WAY to weak for my Widows, have to shoot a 5575 out of them.

If you are tight handed and your arrows are shooting "weak" impacting to the right of the vertical line of sight, point of aim, build out the sideplate to move the impact left.
If they are shooting "stiff" impacting to the left of the vertical line, remove material to move the arrow tight.
It works every time, and it costs virtually nothing.
Tuning is crazy simple if we use ALL the resources and techniques that have been used for decades.

Nope....Rest didn't fix my issue and didn't like shooting off it anyway. I just could not get the dang thing to work for me. It was pretty, well built etc....but just didn't work well for me. No doubt it will work great for someone else. I traded the riser off for a very nice and clean Bear B Mag. Loving the B Mag. I really didn't want to play with more arrow sizes etc....I wanted to shoot the same arrows I shoot in the Widow. I got that with the B Mag. I've been working at simplifying life by decluttering "stuff" and scaling back on "stuff". I'm down to two bows and I actually like having just the two. I know that is herrasy to many! Ha! They should take me through my next 25 years of shooting arrows!

Glad it worked for you. I do like the adjustability of the B-mag side plate. I haven't had the arrow tuning problem you did with your wood riser, but I often find myself hunting with my A-mag rather than my wood A riser.

If you leave a gap between your shelf and side plates for the arrow to sit into, I bet your arrows would work better.
